if not then all the P&S cameras will ot have pictures
try it to see for yourself
A mode most of the time. S mode when I need to capture motion. M mode when I use flash for indoors, e.g. banquet.
I also use auto-ISO most of the time... setting the max ISO to 400 or 800.

Canon 5D onwers will not think twice before setting ISO to 800. 1600 is still usable but you have to have the exposure spot on.
Motion... depends on how fast the motion is, focal length and how stable you are. For wide angles, 1/15s is quite manageable... with VR you can push it further.
I am using D80. With proper exposure, ISO800 is good enough. Even ISO1000 is ok if you don't print big.

Nope, unless you are panning. VR cut the camera motion but not subject motion.but if you deliberately want motion pics, VR should be off isnt it?

the 5D noise control is that good.canon noise control really that good huh
Are you shooting indoors or outdoors?
Indoors: Use your flash SB800. Fantastic flash. Meter the surroundings to get ev -1 or so, with iso at 400 or 800 depending on what kind of Tv you will be getting on the aperture setting. I use a wide zoom 17-40mm, where I set the aperture to f5.6 and try to get the Tv to 1/40 or 1/50. Bounce the flash off the ceiling and use a bounce card to fill in the shadows. Depending on the ambient lighting, you may have to select the white balance rather than let it stay a auto. But this is really cumbersome as you have to remember to change the setting if you change the area of shoot.
Outdoors: Use shutter priority if there is lots of action. May have to use higher iso 400 if you need higher speeds. Most importantly, use continuous shoot mode on AI servo. Take 3 frame burst, otherwise you'll miss out on some classic moments that you will regret.
All the best for your wedding shoot.
