The above shot reminds me of Sapa.

BTW, I notice you have a variety of tones - traditional sepia, brown sepia (above train) and greenish sepia (above). Are all these in-camera adjustment?

Divinemoment, indeed it reminded us of our train ride up to Sapa.
And no less enjoyable this was.

The shot of all of us standing and waiting on the platform was shot with the 5DMkII in colour and desaturated slightly. The lighting on that night was totally tungsten and even after AWB, the 5DMkII returned a yellow picture. Thus the desaturation made it appear slightly Sepia-ish though it was actually a colour photo.

The other two shots of the moving train was taken with the Leica M9 with the Noctilux 50mm f/0.95. I shot them with the Vintage Black and White (in-camera) setting of the camera. The slight variation (brownish or greenish) was also in part due to the way the light hits the subject, and in part due to the way I bring up the details in Lightroom by pushing the slide to the right on the 'Dark' tab.

Ah, I should have checked the exif for the "redish" sepia. I thought it was Leica.

So there is only one vintage colour, its the ambient light that affects the tone.

BTW, you use LR now?

Day 2 Night: Train to Aswan

It was a pretty smooth train ride and we all had dinner served to us on a platter (though some cold and dry buns & cheese) by a good-looking male attendant on the carriage. By just before midnight, quite a few of us were already asleep.
The next morning, don't know who was the first to wake up. But I remember hearing Francis Chia saying that he woke up quite early but just rested and relaxed in the cabin.
By 8:30am, several of us were loitering along the corridor of the carriage, enjoying the scene outside that was flying past.
What we saw were villages with mud-brick houses and dates trees, and the dome ceiling of village mosques in green paint.
More unbelievably were the villagers - children running up alleys, old turbaned men sitting and standing in the corner of the streets staring into nothing afar and ladies in veils slowly walking up the slopes of the hillside.

Here the morning sun streamed through the window of the carriage.

The sunlight must have been very siong, for Acpical suddenly appeared out of nowhere and began to apply sunblock all over his limbs and faces. Dinosour was staring in astonishment at this unusual sight. But then again, how else could the Pharaoh keep his skin fair and supple?

Exploring the train

Adrian said:
"Hey guys. Anyone of you have gone to the front of the train to see what's there? Come, let's go and see lah."
.
So off we went.
We crossed one carriage after another.

And finally we arrived at the dining cabin.

It was nice to actually see several Egyptian men sitting down relaxingly chatting away and reading the papers.
There was also a young Egyptian couple in one corner having their breakfast.

"Hello barboy, give me one cappucino please!" jokingly I took a shot of Adrian at the counter.

Our initial plan was to arrive at Aswan in the morning to be in time to catch the convoy of vehicles down south to Abu Simbel.
But the delay in arrival of the train has resulted in a possible delay in connection.
It was noted that if we missed the setting out of the convoy, our trip to Abu Simbel would be derailed.

Hmmm... it's a tough job Adrian and Melvin have.
All these unexpected but common hiccups meant that they have to make a lot of on the ground last minute decisions.
So while we were all enjoying ourselves, the knotted brows on Adrian and Melvin's faces betrayed their little anxiety inside.

AlexK! Your street shots are excellent!
These two has lots of feeling to me.
Is it me... but is every one of us going into Black and White ah?

For the JZG sunglass shot, it was inspired by bro Lowlights. ;)

Looks like the B&W in getting into the blood stream of many .. ;)

#26 : Chris getting her shot.
But serious, just looking at the size, I still marvelled how the ancient Egyptians constructed their pyramids.

Wah, AlexK! You actually dug out the old files one year ago?!?!
Yah, SereneXMM and mine pose are still the same, but our camera gear has been reduced significantly.
Thanks to a few influential people around us... LOL..
Wah this picture is so nostalgic! I love it soooooo much! Thank you thank you!

Some fun shots!

Wah, since AlexK you all are putting up fun shots, and trying to catch up.. I also want to dump some fun shots here and try to catch up at the same time. Here is us jumping at the Red Pyramid. All are good jumpers except one really heavy one. He that one really cannot make it one... Kekeke...
