SGTrekker 10D9N Everest Panorama Trek (17-26 March 2011)

And here's a shot of the infamous runway. The locals were probably laughing at us standing right behind the plane revving it's propellers for take-off. The draft was really strong and cold!
The runway is very, very short la.. can see the fence at the start of the runway and mountain at the end of the runway.. what an experience..

Limwhow, vngks & other Trekkers..
As for the screaming while landing on Lukla Airport!!!... cool la!!.. I wish I have company to scream with me when I landed after my no-name flight experience.. I was bumped from the 16 seaters to be in a 4 seaters Cessena 172. Only 3 passenger + 1 pilot!!!!.. the turbulances!!!!!.. the experience!!!!... I can re-live the experience with you lot when viewing the airport landing la... I want to travel!!!... :(

I'm also enjoying the beautiful and funny captures from everyone on this thread from KL (and Manila next week). Will try to catch up over the weekend.. for now, here's one of my memorable ones.

Happiest view of All

After so many attempts of trying to get to Lukla, the climax and most happiest moments of all in this trip was seeing the runway at Lukla airport through the cockpit of our plane...
Lukla

Good capture Cheah. Gives us a good view about such a steep approach. The plane must have taken some kind of dive?

BTW, is there any steward or stewardess?

Hahaha Goose !!!!! i still have my year old underwear .. U wanna to taste ..hehe

HAHAHAHA... That is FUNNY!
Yupe! We were all waiting for this 'Kissing the Grounds of Lukla' shot!
I completely missed it... great shot, vngks!

Thanks WHow. My poor and rare attempt at humor hehe. You are my inspiration for all the humorous captions.

ROFL! Vngks, my stomach still hurts from laughing at these captions... good one! :)

Thanks WK :)

One of Our Most Exciting Flights... ever.

As if being squeezed into a single-row-each-side teeny-weeny one-propeller-on-each-side plane was not nerve-wrecking enough...
The fact that we could actually see what the Pilot and the Co-pilot was doing was no barrier (door) between the passengers and the cockpit was an eye-opening experience (if not more nerve-wrecking as we approached the mountain valleys and the runway) in its very self!

By now, we all have acquired some Nepali terms already.
And most of us know that Dharei Ramro means 'Very Good'!

And it's only natural that the instinct to preserve the moment for posterity kicked in, and Adrian and wkcheah, and every one else started snapping away almost non-stop while on this 30 minutes flight.
We saw the Himalayan ranges and the Middle Mountains. I am sure all my fellow team mates have plenty of photos of these beautiful moments. So I am eagerly awaiting their shots... Comes guys, post post!!

On this day, we were in team one and we took off first. It was sheer exhilaration to behold the mountains coming closer and closer to our plane as we edge towards Lukla. But honestly, the runway of Lukla Airport came up quicker than we expected. I just managed to lift up my camera and the runway was already in sight!
Hearts thumping, hands cold and clammy, lips dried and cracking - we all sat with breaths abated...

5576080771_3c18da7bc4_b.jpg

And on this day too, the landing was perfect.
No jolts, no bumps, no turbulence, almost nothing.
Before we knew it, the Pilot and Co-Pilot have done a most wonderful job of landing us in Tenzing-Hilary Airport (for ease of remembering, we'd just call it Lukla Airport lah...).
EVERYONE was cheering, as though they have gone through a most life-changing experience.
Even Baboo, the guide, was cheering with us... Hahaha...

Jokes all aside, the Pilot and Co-Pilot were most professional in carrying out their duties. And I must say, it is with flight crew like this that the incidence rate continues to be low.
My salute to ALL the flight crew on the flights to Lukla!!

Bro limwhow, this is sooo hillarious, can't stop laughing. My colleague will think i'm crazy for giggling alone in the office hehehe
Dharei Ramro !!

Our 2 hamsum fellow trekkers Johnny and Goose did what they promised to do if we touched down at Lukla Airport - Kiss and lick the tarmac.

Johnny: Wat it taste like huh?

Goose: Think it'll taste like chicken. Wait I try.

Goose: < lick lick >

Goose: OMGWTFBBQ #%*&*^^%#$ Ptooooi! Gah, taste worse than your week old underwear!

Yo limwhow, looks like vngks also got potential to be the Secretary to the President of SARP:bsmilie:

Really nice shot wkcheah, I got goosebump upon seeing the pic, never knew it looks that scary from the Pilot seat. No wonder they have flight manual standby on their seat :D:D

35. It's almost 12noon when we got flight cancelation confirmation...not to waste anymore time, we proceed our trip to the Bhaktapur Durbar Square
Bhaktapur is an ancient Newar town in the east corner of the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal. It is the third largest city in Kathmandu valley and was once the capital of Nepal during the great Malla Kingdom until the second half of the 15th century.
Bhaktapur is listed as a World Heritage by UNESCO for its rich culture, temples, and wood, metal and stone artwork.

36. Three Generations
In contrast to Patan and Kathmandu, the population of Bhaktapur is almost entirely Hindu. The rich Newari culture with its distinctive customs and traditions, already fast disappearing in so many places, clearly finds sustenance here. When you came to this place, it feels like you are having a journey to the past.
Unfortunately, starting January 2011, the new entry fee to Bhaktapur Durbar Square will be Rs 100 for visitors from SAARC countries and Rs 1,000 (USD15) from visitors from other countries. For comparison purpose, the monthly salary of expat English teacher in Kathmandu is only USD100 !!

Video of our plane taking off at Lukla aiport.
Just as vngks and every one else were taking shots after shots of the planes at the airport, I saw the plane for our first team getting ready to take off. I took a video of it to remember how it did it...
So humbly... here it is.

Remind me of the propeller plane in Myanmar but I think none of us never have any fear or high 5 upon touching down.

Thanks for posting this. The plane took off almost reaching the end of the runway. something like 5% safety factor left. It also take great courage for the pilots as their daily routine.

Haha... divinemoment yah, to tell you the honest truth, it looks twice as scary as it actually is lah.
You can ask most of us who were on the two flights... I think the great majority of us would have found it quite ok.
Or... perhaps it was only me... maybe due to my ignorance, I didn't know half as much as what I needed to know to feel the fear... Hehehe....

BTW, is there any steward or stewardess?

Got. Got pretty, slim and long-legged air stewardess whose job was to bai-swee (act pretty) and distribute sweets and cotton buds to cover our ears.
Here. This is the lovely stewardess on our Day 4's aborted flight... distributing to wkcheah his share of candies and cotton for his ears...

After seeing all these video of landing & take off, I'm glad that we returned to Singapore in one complete piece. I'm reconsidering the idea of EBC trek. Phew, phew...
