I can't edit my post. Has it got to do with the server being too busy? :dunno:
Depends on which forum you have posted in.

Thread/post editing and deleting have been disabled in the following forums :-
Buy & Sell
Mass Orders & Mass Sales
Workshops, Studio/Model Shoots

Why?

To reduce probable abuse of system by editing or changing prior posts. The majority of threads/posts in these sections involve $$$ and we need to have the threadstarters (and participants in the thread) transparency in their posts, otherwise we risk a situation where commitments made earlier are changed and members are impacted.

In those forums where editing/deleting is disabled, we advise threadstarter/participants to post an update in the thread when conditions have changed.

It was fine for two days and suddenly back yesterday night. :(

Maybe that's a bit of a selfish suggestion but anyway :

Last time I encountered this "Server busy" issue, I noticed that were online 60% of registered users and 40% of guest (approx)

Is there anyway, while experiencing a certain loading level, to give access priority to registered user against guests ?

Since they are returning people and the most active part of the forum life, this might be a first containment action (and should also limit the number of complaints :bsmilie: )

What do you think ?

how you check those information ?

I feel this is a workable and fair idea.

If people wish to learn and exchange ideas, its only right they sign up for an account at minimum. Ideally they should participate in discussions.

Watching from the sidelines as a "guest" is like free loading... Doing it a few times to "get a feel" and to decide whether or not to join is perfectly alright... but considering the large number of unregistered users who are sharing the resources at peak hours, that's one too many free loaders.

Of course it isn't necessary to make this place exclusive and ban non-registered users... but when push comes to shove registered users should get preference.

there're times in the daytime when some 200-300 users are online. yet, there's no 'Server too busy' message appearing.

most often, i noticed that in the late night, 12am to around 1am plus, there are not many users online, around 200(According to the main page), and yet i can get the 'server too busy' message.

food for thought.

Hmmm some backup procedures running in the background maybe ?
:dunno:

Obviously there is no reason to ban everybody but I think some forum apply a priority to registered users vs guest, this is what am talking about.

But maybe this is not possible to implement it here ?

If I didn't know better, I'd say the server is slacking.

You know how bank tellers all put up the "Counter Closed" sign during peak hours when they're tons of people and count money, leaving 2 poor tellers to handle all the crowd!

Maybe the server has acquired AI... learning to slack. :bsmilie:

This question inevitably comes up over and over again whenever there are reports of server slowdowns at relatively regular timings.

We have been running CS for some time now so I am fairly confident we know those backup procedures very well by now. So just to answer this question once and for all, no, its got nothing to do with backup procedures or background processes etc etc.

I am currently in the midst of a major revamp on the server backend, so hopefully the problem goes away after this.

I am closing this thread now as it has served its purpose. Thanks for everyone's feedback!
