To be honest, I would go for the XHA1.

Thanks for the links.

It seems that Sony HDR-FX7 does not have native 16:9 wide aspect ratio chips and it does not have 24P recording. The CMOS sensors are 1/4 inch in size.

I am now looking at the Canon models XH G1 and XH A1 prosumer HD camcorders. The Manufacturer Suggested Retail Prices are USD$7000 and USD$4000 respectively. Most likely I will go for XH A1 at USD$4000 or SGD$6151, at the prevailing exchange rate of 1 USD = 1.53783 SGD. Its SGD$450 slightly more expensive.

The Canon XL H1 costs USD$9000 or SGD$13860.

Going by the technical specifications alone,

Sony HDR-FX7 vs Canon XH A1

Sensor Type: CMOS vs CCD
Sensor size: 1/4 inch vs 1/3 inch
Native 16:9: Nay vs Yea
Scan rates: 24f vs 24f
Native 24p: Nay vs Nay
Optical Zoom: 20X vs 20X
OIS: Yea vs Yea
LCD: 3.5 in vs 2.8 in
Max battery power: ??? vs 7 hours
Price: SGD$5700 vs SGD$6150

HDV is an MPEG-2 (DVD-compatible) format that records onto standard MiniDV tapes, which are cheap and widely available.

CMOS - Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor
CCD - Charged Couple Device
OIS - Optical Image Stabilization
EIS/DIS - Electronic or Digital Image Stabilization

Gain: Low, Medium, High

Low Gain for Bright Light Conditions
High Gain for Low Light Conditions

Hi! I'm wan tat sony HD camcorder too...but preferably a tape media type and im still saving $$. Btw, u have the raw/AVI capture (around 640x480 resolution) for the hotstuff babes?

Hi wobbly, yeah I agree.. its so photoghraph.
But in the mudpool, the lighting isnt fantastic, notice I took this screen cap when theres a flash? Great proper lighting really maximises your camera ablity..

i'll post a hi res later photo later..
cheers!
