Went to Plaza Sing with peterpan1975's LX3 & did a non-scientific comparison between EX1 & LX3 at Manual Mode
ISO 400, 1/60sec, f2.8, widest, focus on the "Vangard"
LX3 was in AWB,
EX1 forgot to set to AWB, so was in Manual (which I have no idea what was it, I check this when I came home, using this Jeffery's Exif Viewer http://regex.info/exif.cgi ).
Settings :
LX3
Sharpness : 0
Contrast : 0
Saturation : 0
NR : 0
EX1 (using this Jeffery's Exif Viewer http://regex.info/exif.cgi
Sharpness : Normal
Contrast : Normal
Saturation : Normal
NR : dont know

Observations :
1) General sharpness, contrast & saturation goes to LX3
2) WB is different, me fault.
3) The black color "grills" of the rack doesnt separate well form the black color Vangard bags.
4) Wordings on the Tripod boxes is softer on the EX1.
5) The Olympus table top's edge looks jagged on the EX1.
6) The wordings "plazasingapura" printed on the black cloth are all soft, near & far.
7) Price tags on the Creative table looks soft.
We also tested both cameras at ISO800, but I didnt upload the photos.
General observation :
1) LX3 noise & artifact increases.
2) EX1 not much changes, so interm of noise & artifact it is better than LX3 at ISO800, but the softness is still the same as when EX1 is at ISO400, soft throughout.
To my personal opinion, will I get the EX1 (I really really want the swivel LCD screen & dont care about video recordings)? No. When I shoot jpeg with a P&S, I dont want to pp, crop yes, but not pp. If a normal situation like this test shot also need pp, hell no.
Will I get a LX3? No, the current price is still at over $600!!!
This is a great disappointment for me. So now wait to see LX4 lor.
So at the mean time, continue using my trusty Canon G2.
May be those who own both EX1 & LX3 can share their findings here?

Thanks Dennis for the share of the pic. I would really like to see more of this kind of comparison then just picture of different camera function. Hope more ppl who got Lx3 and Ex1 can really contribute. I for once will hold back purchasing Ex1 and wait for more review of this or maybe release of Lx4
I have also noticed a slightly softer image from my ex1 compared to my Panasonic fz20 and fz35 when shooting the same subject. I experimented with the in camera image control in the ex1. I changed sharpen to +2. The result is better to me. This is subjective of course. I don't think the adjustment has increased apparent noise to any significant degree, so I think I will leave it at +2. But I notice now that this change has caused face detection to be grayed out in P,S, A, modes. ???
One gripe I have about the ex1 is that when in IA mode you can't select the focus point. Even though it is a completely automatic mode, I would think that even a novice user would want to focus on a particular thing in the scene, especially when the user sees in the review that the camera focused on something else other than the main point of interest. I know that the other modes of the camera P, S, A, M give us complete control, but sometimes there isn't enough time to adjust, and I have actually found that IA is pretty reliable, except for the focus point selection.

no, it means that instead of the text normally being white coloured and selectable in the menu,
it turns grey and cannot be selected when in-camera contrast, sharpening and saturation are changed.
Some options cannot be selected when others are, e.g
EV and Face-Detection when Smart Range is enabled.

i must say the ex1 feels alot nicer on my hand than my lx3 though, image wise is very comparable. agree that it should be used for jpgs and not raw - i think the EX1 excels in higher iso as comparisons have showed somewhere on the net. i found that iso 1600 was pretty "usable" in low light. and i enjoy the fun filters/effects for built-in editing

Is there any comparison between Samsung EX1 and Canon G11? I know that Samsung EX1 is better for indoor and night.. but wonder which one is better for outdoor, landscape, macro shooting? Thinking of getting one next weekend before hokkaido trip..
May be hard to duplicate the conditions under which you took your photo, but here is a couple of comparison shots between my Panasonic FZ35 and EX1/TL500. Hopefully you can compare and see for yourself if the jagged edges are a problem. The crops are approximately 1:1. Of course both cameras exhibit some jagged edges if viewed at 2:1 or larger. The first is FZ35 camera and second is EX1/TL500....same order in cropped images: Also remember that I have sharpening set to +2 in the EX1......may or may not appeal to you.

alamak, i never think even vertical line also got jagged edge. normally i see dpreview & those most coomon camera review site, jagged edges is for slanting lines.:bigeyes:

i see contrast of the wood grain is higher for #01, may i know if the FZ35 contrast is set to higher value (i assuming that is what you mean right?)?
but the wooden grain of #04 is higher than #03, if #01 & #03 is the same camera, #02 & #04 is the other camera, why is there a difference?
but looking at the color cast & contrast, i think #01 & #04 should be one camera, #02 & #03 is the other right. exif data say it is in this order lay, ie #01 & #04 Pan, #02 & #03 Sam.
also, exif data say :
Pan Cont=-1, Sat=0, sharp=0.
Sam Cont=0, Sat=0, Sharp=0 not +2 like u stated.
i very confuse now. maybe the exif data viewer software i using is not correct?
can someone pls confirm the readings i am getting regarding the setings?

Sorry. You don't miss a thing. That vignetting is from my fz20 lens hood adapter which I have stuck onto the fz35 so that I can mount a polarizer and GND filter when shooting landscapes. It is a good clue as to which photo is which. EX1 has no vignetting.
