Samsung EX-1 Review

Hehe. Here's my set. Initially I m considering G11 and LX3. Went to the PCshow and come across EX1 at the samsung booth. Was attended by a young guy and his manager. His manager is very friendly (salute). He patiently explain to me when I'm asking him about the comparison between EX1 with G11 and LX3. After his explanation I find the I will only missed the HD recording from LX3 (I mean only for my own requirement). He gave me a very good deal ($589) with all the standard free gift and they are giving away 1 unit of low end HP during the period. So I guess it's a good deal, in the end just get myself a set. I m only a beginner. Hope to learn from you all.

if enough then maybe we should do an EX1 User's shoot/outing in a week or 2 ?

I try out this camera at msphoto the other day, very impressive! But they quote me $650! luckily didn't buy! Where can I get it at $499? I don't need all the freebies!

i think you asked BEFORE the PC show when it was newly launched......... prices have come down since....... check again

Price has come down indeed but the bundled gifts are also less. Can't get all those free items given out at the PC Show any more. Official free gifts now are 8Gb card, original battery and case only. Anything more would depend on dealers.

i got the camera at the PC show after reading this post plus reviews from around the net as i also missed my LX3 that i sold off.. its been great so far. i really like the ergonomics compared to the lx3 and its still pocketable if your pants aren't that small/tight.

regarding off-camera flash, my rf 602 triggers + yong nuo flash were unable to be triggered when i tried ): (they worked on my lx3 last time)

an outing will be cool. im up for it too!

1 question, can the EX1 mount adapter tube so we can use filter, wide / tele converter?

Bracketing choices are great.... you can bracket exposure and WB (this is neat) and PSS and the camera takes 3 pics on a single press of the shutter button (for exposure bracketing) and in-camera creates additional files from the taken image (for WB bracketing)

Up to +2 wide

Seen some HDR images that some photogs took using these bracketing tools...... very nice

It can also bracket in PSS ...... "take 9 photos in different styles" ..... have not tried this yet

found this, has something about the samsung wide-con, but it is written in chinese.

http://www.mobile01.com/newsdetail.php?id=9280

from the looks of it, the 0.75x wide-con is build together with the adapter tube, so if dont want to use wide-con but only want to use cp filter than how?

also mentioned in that site, the nikon flash doesnt work with this camera (for benefit of those who cant read chinese).

MS did mention something about bringing in screw-on adaptor tubes (like the ones that are used on LX-3 ) to allow for attachment of filters

darned... the Chinese always win.... that reviewer is HOT!

my sweetest, most wonderful gf just got me a Samsung EX-1 as a gift (this after scouring everywhere for a Lumix LX-3 :bsmilie: )

just started playing with it for a night and i'm already fascinated with this little big guy here. to have made such a good impression on me after 6yrs with a Nikon D70s DSLR (that died recently :( ), Samsung's done something really right with this.

The EX1 has many built-in effects filters. One of them is the Sketch filter...
