[Sam]'s Japan trip (Kobe/Miyajima/Hiroshima/Osaka/Takayama/Kyoto)

Wow,that's an expensive bus ride!how long was the journey?

1 person bus ticket for return tix between Takayama & Shirakawago is 4300yen (about SGD65 i think).
1 way bus journey takes 50mins.

Enjoyed all your photos. Thanks for sharing!

I not only enjoyed the photos, it brought back memories and they are so real. The composition works very well for me.Truly keen eyes and magical angles. Though simple but there is life. Any more? Keep them coming. I am learning while enjoying. Thanks

Thanks...here's a few more.

Thanks. You should try going Shirakawa-go during winter in future if you happen to go to Takayama/Kanazawa areas. It's even more pretty because there will be snow on the roofs.

Kyoto pics will be posted at a much slower pace compared to my takayama pics cause I foresee a busy schedule these 2 weeks. Will probably post some tomorrow.

I was staying in Gero last Feb. By the time i reach Takayama is too late about 11am. So no point going there.
Need to be back to hotel before 7pm. Bus has limited trip back to Takayama.

This Trip i was will going to Tokyo, Kyoto, Kusatsu for 11days. Kyoto mainly there is a event on 22 Oct and Nara which i miss out last Feb.

Thanks in advance.
So where you stay in Kyoto?

Gero is the hotspring area, right? I think the train which I took from Nagoya to Takayama had a stop at Gero.

I won't be staying at Kyoto. Will be staying near Shin-Osaka station (Chisun Hotel) since it's just 14mins Shinkansen ride away from Kyoto station. Because it's peak period for Kyoto so most hotels are fully booked (or too expensive) near the Kyoto station. No point paying 11000 for a double room at Kyoto when I can get single room at Shin-Osaka for just 4200yen, since I'll be going alone.

Miss the Kyoto station and all those ramen corner up there at the top.... Anyone going there should give it a try (we tried out few stalls there...burp)

Hmm, good question, I've never thought of doing that when I was there. I've checked the website again but I am also not sure if you can do so using the same ticket. However I would speculate that you cannot stopover at the stations in between and take a later train to resume your travel because the tickets will assign seats to you, so if you alight then board the next train, then chances are that you won't have seats. However if you get the 1 way ticket from 1st stop to last stop, you don't have to board at the 1st stop. You can board from 2nd stop...as long as you are boarding the same train that is stated on your ticket.

I know this because I bought my train tix from the 1st station, and then I walked through the bamboo groves and came across the 2nd station just at the end of the bamboo groves. The train staff there told me I can board the train from that station instead of walking back to the 1st station to board. But since it was about another 30mins away from our boarding time so me and hubby decided to take a stroll back to the 1st station instead of sitting 30mins at the 2nd station waiting for the train.

I'm using D700 & Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 & my Panasonic Lumix LX5 which I also brought along for the trip. I usually bring my D90 for travels since it's smaller but this time round, hubby wanted to use the D90 so I had to bring my D700 instead.

i see, since the train assign seat for us, then i think we have to buy separate tickets again if we alight halfway.

D700 is a good camera, no wonder your pics so nice.

Looking forward for your Kyoto pics.

Where?? Is it the 2 levels of restaurants where you have to take the lift up from the Isetan side?

Yeah, I think you might have to get a separate ticket.
Yup, love the D700 + 24-70. Hate the weight though. haha. I'm still trying to decide between my D90 or D700 for my upcoming trip. Since I'll be travelling alone (without the hubby to help me carry luggage) so I am trying to find ways to lighten my luggage.

Kyoto pics will be delayed abit since I'm currently kinda busy this week, and maybe next week as well.

Yes, from that lift (Isetan side) go to 10th floor then there is connection. You can also take the super long elevator. Be forewarned, you will be bitten by the Ramen bug! (my wife who is not noodle person was converted on the spot). Then don't blame me for filling in lots of oil and carbo.

Hi Samcty, May i ask whats your travel bag setup ?

Yeah, I went up there for lunch back in July but I didn't come across many Ramen shops. I recall Chinese restaurants and Western restaurants though. Maybe I was at the wrong level. Will explore more this time. Thx

Hi Samcty, May i ask whats your travel bag setup ?

I only brought D700 + 24-70 f2.8 for the Japan trip in July for the pics you see in this thread. I did also brought along my Panasonic Lumix LX5 as well.
My hubby brought D90 + tokina 11-16 f2.8 & tamron 17-50 f2.8

As for my upcoming Nov trip, haven't decided whether to bring D700 or D90 yet.
Since I'll be travelling alone so the weight of camera & lens will be an even bigger factor for me this time round.
As of today, I'm inclined towards D90 + 18-200 + 50mm f1.8?
But then again, I've been changing my mind every single day so I guess I'll only know what I'll be bringing on the day itself before heading to airport. hehe.

I don't like to switch lenses so I'll only bring at most 2 lenses.

looking forward to Kyoto photos!;)

Hey guys,
sorry for the delay for Kyoto pics. I'm actually flying off again tonight (yeah, Japan again...hehe, returning on 13th).

I will definitely post the Kyoto pics, just that it will have to wait till I return.
