Rebrand of what? It's a new lens.

He mean , since minolta and sony is together, he thot that this lens is from minolta but they just rebrand the name to sony and sell back.

Got it?

Well for this lens, Sony added SAM so its not entirely a rebranded lens. But of cos it does not justify this increased price.

Sony does rebrand lens though. One example is the 100mm f2.8 macro, which is essentially a rebranded minolta 100mm f2.8 macro D. Both lenses should be identical in construction and everything less cosmetics changes.

Yeah..i know this lens got the SAM

Nah... This mean you and him still don't get it. ;)

for those thinking that the 28-75 SAM is priced on the high side, please go and do some research first. first of all, why are you comparing the price of a SECOND HAND KM28-75 (which is as hard to get as it is rare) to a BRAND NEW 28-75SAM? if i remember, the price for a brand new KM28-75 when KM was still around was also pretty expensive.

furthermore, i have tested this lens. it is very sharp wide open at all focal length on APS-C, and it is extremely worth the price you are paying for.

i will be heading down today to test it on a full frame. considering the edge sharpness on the APSC is very good already, i think full frame results on the centre of the image is going to be very good as well.

IQ no fight with KM or tamron 28-75.

Wah bro... where u tested that lens? ;o I'd go there and play with it today... hehe;)

can go play at sony styles?

not sure if sonystyle has it, but CP has a copy.

can someone do a comparison test with tamron 17-50 or CZ 16-80?
Testing with Tamron cos both are of the same purpose (low light fast aperture).
With CZ 16-80 due to pricing (good for those who dont need the wide angle).

Maybe if some has the Sigma 24-70 HSM can go test it out too :bsmilie:

However, since its priced lower than the CZ 16-80, the new 28-75's sharpness shouldnt be as good I guess? Dont think Sony will be so silly and shoot themselves in their foot if they released a full frame lens with f2.8, as sharp as cz16-80 APS-C lens and yet cheaper. Then no one would buy the CZ16-80 or even 24-70 already.

Im guessing this lens will be sharper than normal lenses, but not as sharp as the CZ 16-80. Its meant to be a cheaper version of the CZ24-70.

Correct, it's for the full-frame buyers while the 16-80 is a DT lens. So they already don't compete anyway.

Do not think that Sony is worried if this lens is sharper than the 16-80; this has nothing to do with the aps-c format.

In interesting alternative... although how it competes with the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 HSM will be interesting to see...

On focal length alone, I would largely prefer the Sigma since 4mm more on the wide end is very significant and 5mm more on the tele end is insigificant. Hence the Sigma would be a better all-round walk-about lens... And for that matter, the Sigma is around the same price as this new Sony 28-75mm f/2.8. There's got to be something different somewhere, otherwise this lens will be doomed even before it sells. Most reviews show that the Sigma is very very close to the image quality of the CZ 24-70mm f/2.8. So I cannot imagine the half-priced 28-75mm f/2.8 having identical or very very close image quality to the CZ. If so, it will devalue the CZ considerably... most interesting pricing strategy for Sony in Singapore... I wonder how the prices compare for these 3 lenses in US, Europe, Britain, Oz & HK...

Anyway, I always wanted to ask: what's the difference between SAM & SSM??? Aren't they both simply lens motors?

If the 28-75 is sharper, has a much wider aperture, supports both full frame and aps-c, has build in motor and yet cost lesser? Doesn't make sense right?

Ok maybe it should be compared to the cz 24-70 instead
This lens is nearly $2000 cheaper than the cz 24-70, if its as Sharp as the cz then who will wanna buy the cz lol

You can use this lens on APSC, but it would be narrow in the view angle. Not sure if this would be suitable. But then, it may depend on your preference.

Now you realize is a reasonable price right?? ;)

I doubt it can compare with 24-70 CZ. I think, it should be sold as a kit-lens with A850.

I think the 28-75 is over priced.

The sigma 24-70 has sharpness of the cz 24-70 and has hsm.

Unless this new lens is as sharp as the cz24-70, else I don see why anyone will prefer this over the sigma when both are similarly priced.

I think, someone had posted why some would avoid to get Sigma in this forum...
