S5Pro - is it here yet

You are very right. Glad to hear you are happy with your choice and will stick with it.

But for many of us -- esp those who have never used a Fuji before -- the S5 is an interesting option and because it is so different in so many ways from the Canons and Nikons of this world, there is a need to try and understand more about this camera. For eg., the effective sensor resolution of the 45 degree Fuji CCD layout vs a conventional CCD is not at all straightforward, and I don't think I understand it. That makes the S5 neither a 6MP nor a 12MP camera -- in the conventional sense. Given the whole range of other DSLRs out there at various price points, this makes the decision a lot more complicated for those interested in getting the S5 -- but of course, a fun process as well! Fair to say that anyone would like to avoid making a costly mistake.

hah...i dun have to bother with the 45deg sensor. i just know that i just love the pics from my s3 and s5. who cares 6mp or 8mp :bsmilie:

yes, any cam of any pix can print up to A0 or larger. its whether u want to accept that quality or not. the details will look fuzzy or blurry, there's juz not enuf. i've heard of GF & it can do a very nice scale up, but if the details is not there, means its not there. nothing u can do to create extra details. the fuzzy blurry look will still be there.

You know those monstrous Calvin Klein murals and banners around Time Square in New York City? For your information, they are shot with a Canon EOS 1D, which is a 4.1MP DSLR. Genuine Fractals Print Pro is used to enlarge the images and to keep all the details. I stayed in New York City for 2 years and those ad banners definitely don't look fuzzy to me.

I couldn't agree more

Yawn...... People here are getting so technical that they lost concentration on their photography.

Agreed.

Well, even a D100 is enough for an A0 print, on any given day. Let's not be too picky over the technicals and focus on the art itself.

Hehe. That was why I sighed.

There have been a rare few banners in Singapore shot on a S3 Pro. I know of a friend who'd shot quite a handful in KL on a S2 Pro. And I have previously invited one such unbeliever to come see for himself, only he chose to stay away.

Oh well, there will be such jokers everywhere.

Looking for equipment specs. I do not think many of them know what a camera is. Heheheh.

BREAKING NEWS...... An used Fuji S3 Pro selling at Prime Camera for S$1499 as of today (23 March 2007).

I received my formal education in photography but my cameras and lenses are just like pens and erasers to me. Even if I use a Mont Blanc, it does not mean that I will pass my exams with flying colors.

(OT a bit) By the way, I prefer the good old Red Leaf pens. Unlike the newer gel pens, they are cheap and doesn't smudge.

Do the s3 stil got warranty? Is it better to get a s5? :dunno:

I prefer to use my Coolpix too. And it often seems to annoy the jeepers out of some folk.

OT2 - I prefer the made-in-China Laknock, got rubber grip, price same-same. Auntie at the shop gives me extra highlighter when I buy a 10 pens.

Thanks for explaining. Technically I think yes, but you cannot use the extra dynamism.

However, if your work requires such high MPs, and if 12MP barely meets your requirement, I suggest you go and get a MF dSLR. 39MP is a good number to start with. ;p

thx for explaining. :) so during the 12MP processing, do u still get the headroom of a typical RAW file or is it more like jpegs headroom?

i would love to own a MF digital back even if its juz 16MP but they r juz very out of reach.

thx again. :)

i have not been to NY but i've seen some big ads prints here & i dun like the qualities from those done with a DSLR. there's juz more byte from those using MF digital back, the tonality & details r simply much better.

haha, if they pay peanuts, they get peanuts and vice versa.

wow! where did you shoot this?

I shot some pretty children as publicity for a childcare centre operator a few years ago using my S2pro, I have seen the poster prints that the company printed up to 2m height for outdoors use. The colours and sharpness are fantastic, but I did do up-res to 25MP for them first using "intelligent" up-res software (Photo-zoom if I remember correctly). Paid job, I am mst happy, so are the parents of the children and of course, that particular childcare company.
