Strictly speaking.......they are not flower, they are leafs...sorry to OT:bsmilie:
Since we are OTing... :sticktong the coloured 'flowers' are actually sepals. The flowers are the little white things inside.

I can't remb what causes it to change colour, was it the hot weather or the lack of oxygen? Or something else?

I like #6. To improve, make sure that the beek is not cut off. Also, try to give more space infront, towards where the eyes are looking.

Anyone is able to use the S3is to blur the background to focus on the subject? I keep changing the aperture to find the correct stop but invail.

Like this?

Feather

I was shooting at 270mm. You need to zoom out a bit for this effect, these cameras have really tiny sensors, so the DOF is quite big.

The best f/stop to shallow DOF is to have the widest possible. Below are the 3 pointers for shallow DOF:

1. Wider aperture the better.
2. Longer the zoom the better.
3. The closer to the object the better

Hope this helps.:)

Ermz... I cant seem to produce the results. I read on websites where they can produce pretty good DOF at f4.I wanted to snap a picture of a person with the background bluring. Adjusted the camera at f2.8. The background is still so clear. The easiest to blur the background is through super macro. But I cant possible use them on portrait ba.

I wonder how to achieve the 'feather' picture without zooming much huh?

Thanks for the tips!:D

Is the website talking about dSLRs with larger sensors? Well, with a camera with such a small sensor, it is not easy. You will still need to zoom out at least to 100mm. Also, try getting a background that is further away from the subject.

I have tried 660mm (with the DCR1540) on my S2IS, background is so nice & blur! :bsmilie:

Out of the 3 factors that affect the DOF, the dist between the cam and the obj affects the DOF most....therefore, to get shallow DOF, move close to the obj....but for a person, you cannot possibly close up like the feather, which is much smaller than a person....so, you cannot expect the background of the person in your portrait to have background so blur like the feather pic....this is the limitation of the S3 small sensor, you may have to live with it. One other way is to post process your pic.:)
