haha, assuming launch in China during Olympic,.......

China population -> 1,321,851,888
0.5% population uses DSLR -> 6.6million
5% of the DSLR will upgrade to D300FX -> 330k units demand
Nikon is crying........becuase production cannot cope.

"Accurate" calculation there .....

We never know the real situation as of know.

A New Hope ? Empire Strikes Back ?

im saving up already:D
tomolo skip lunch,dinner eat grass:bsmilie:

wah! skip lunch and eat grass for dinner, you can save so much for a FF Nikon! :bsmilie:

Actually you don't need to do rocket science maths to calculate the possibility of a Semi-Pro FX cam hitting the market.

In the past, we believed that once FX hit the market eventually, DX lenses will be useless but Nikon managed to salvage DX lenses by making it usable with FX.

By launching, or upgrading rather, the ENTIRE range of DSLRs in Nikon arsenal, Nikon would be able to capture a larger market of DSLR users. Imagine, full frame with DX capabilities, low noise DSLR, just pick one that suits your budget.

The upgrading of all DSLRs to FX will be Nikon's ticket to turn the tide they have lost some 20 years ago.

The question to ask now is not if but when? The longer Nikon ponders about the question, the more time Canon and others have to play catch up.

Not really true, DX still have it's market. If not, P&S would not be selling now, as everyone would be owning a DSLR instead of a P&S.

P&S may still have market, no matter what.
For example : those who want to travel light and small cam.

I guess you missed my point.

It's not about whether DX is still marketable, it's about gaining market share, and achieving economy of scale.

There isn't a doubt that DX is still sellable for now. The consumers have had no choice remember? We were forced to throat the DX format.

Now picture this that if Canon is to go full frame for all their DSLRs, Nikon will be playing catch up again.

OIC.

Canon EF-S cannot be used on their "Full Frames" due to physical limitations to the rear lens element. At least Nikon have (or had the foresight) allow for that in design.

Anyway, with Sony's FF sensor announcement, I doub't only Nikon gets a slice of that pie. I believe all if not most major players would have a FF line or 2. (mabbe less oly and those 4/3 advocates)

Lastly, Canon would not, in the near term to go FF in all their DSLRs as they also see the cost effectiveness in maintaining their 1.6x crop factor. They are, at this moment, only reconsidering the 1.3x of 1D series.

That's the beauty of competition and cut throat market!

Back then, Nikon decides to stick to F mount and body driven focusing while Canon moved on to a new mount and on lens motor.

Look what happened?

Now, history is going to repeat itself should Canon decides to defend it's 1.6x crop sensor.

The market will not sympathise and have no mercy for low technology products these days. Whoever's going to upgrade their ranges to full frame first will benefit from this round of technology revolution. No point saving technology for future use. The battle is about now, today.

Nikon tasted it once back in the 80s, so I would like to think that they will learn their lesson here.

So who won back then?
Nikon or Canon?
i only know Nikon users are happy as they can still use their old lens.

anything for a cheaper FF:lovegrin:

right on....

Be careful you get indigestion from all the grass. then you will need to let me use your FF!:bsmilie:

3-5 mths is enough?

would depend on the pricing.....I think speculatively, the price of a semi-pro FF could be around US$3000....hopefully....;p

at USD3K, I rather top up to get the D3.

No harm discussing, as the rumours are very strong. In fact I can feel the force ;p

You will not be disappointed. You probably have to start keeping aside est $800-900 for the next few months.

Again this is pure speculations ;p

I suspect either when the 5D MkII is just out or just before it is out. Go figure

Not meant to be any flame bait here.

Well don't speak too fast ;) you never know

Wah, i can sense the semi-pro FF dark force coming~~ Esp from ya.;p
