Rumour : Nikon Semi-Pro Full Frame ???

I sense that Nikon is trying over the last 2-3 years to establish a "complete" product line to retain the market number 1 position. If there are more ppl "wanting" a semi-pro body with full frame, then Nikon may just drop the price of D300 (usual marketing practise) and launch a higher-priced D300FullFrame (technically possible, and priced it higher so it stays as a premium product). So they can have 2 cash cows?

This is good, and perhaps to counter other manufacturer's "confirmed-rumour" of FF body (see other sub-forum), in region of 3k-4k ?

A friend just informed me that Nikon MAY launch more new lens arsenal and semi-pro full frame body on 2008 ?

Any body got any reliable info on this ?

I have heard rumour about the Nikon Full Frame Rangefinder @ Dpreview.
It using the d3 sensor. hmm why not for rangefinder.

Hi, a bit OT. Anyone has any idea on the new Nikon lenses that may be out this year?

Any chance for AF-S 200mm VR macro f2.8 to replace the AF 200mm macro f4?

I find that unlikely, given the similarity of the features between the D3 and D300. In all honesty, the only difference is the full frame sensor, and hence a full frame D300 would be a D3 in all practical considerations. Surely Nikon wouldn't want to kill off their pro model so soon after its introduction.

Sounds good, but anyway, I wonder if today have enough market to support the rangefinder line.

I remember Epson R1-DS failure to launch, and I guess "small" market segment for Leica M8 (considering price vs feature) ?

Agree but not so soon.

D300 is still hot and can command a premium price. So why introduce any product and kill this premium pricing. Let the demand and supply to determine the price. Lower the price when demand starts to dwindle and prop up the market with introduction of semi-pro FF body (my guess maybe early 2009). Rather than lower the price so that you can introduce another model to compete with your own products.

Nikon is not a very big company and its production resources are limited as witness by the number of D3 and D300 coming out. Furthermore the FF higher mp camera D3x? is also strongly rumoured to come online this year (probably mid or late) this may already put a severe strain on the production resources of the Pro and semi Pro range

Therefore it would probably be tackling the consumer range by replacing some of its older DSLRs.

Anyway these are all speculations without any inside info ;)

Many times, the competition not from within, so a model between a D3 and a D300 (like a D30) would be not too far fetch.

IMHO, Nikon will not launch a FF Semi-Pro, not until the Pro series has gone to a higher level like higher MP, better ISO, etc. A FF Semi-Pro within the next 6 months will just kill themselves, D3 & D300 cash cows down the drain. Think from a point of a businessman, will any one make such a decision. All businessmen will maximize a great product before the launch another. They also need to recover their R&D cost.

So, don't waste your time on the rumour, go and buy a D3 or D300 if you need a cam now if the budget fit you.

Good luck for the hopefuls.... You're going to spend a long time hoping :)

Although it would be quite interesting to see if Nikon decides to fight the Canon 5D head-on at the same price bracket... since currently there isn't anything from Nikon at/around 4k. Pricing a semi pro full-frame any higher and it kills the D3... any lower and it kills the D300... so... heh.

me, I'ld rather hope for an FX Nikon rangefinder... at say half the price of a Leica M8 :)... now that Nikon seems to have some ideas on solving the light fall-off problems of FX as demonstrated in the D3, they might be able build on that to effectively overcome one of the deficiencies of the Epson R1-DS, which was significant light fall-off with wide angle lenses even though it was using a DX-sized sensor... the M8 overcomes the problem as well but even then it is using a cropped sensor (1.3 I believe)...

Would a Nikon RF be using the M-mount then?

Thanks for your comments guys. Honestly my currenct cam is enough for most of the time, but having "affordable" full frame body will be nice ......
Currently plan to buy the full frame lens to be used on DX body. Hopefully, in few years the affordable FF becomes reality.

What about new lenses ? (as mentioned on post#1 above)

yeah i oso think that i would buy a ff lens and use on a crop framed sensor till the prices of ff cams becomes affordable which would be super long:D

PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE!!!

This discussion is not about additional "ridiculous" features as mentioned above, sorry if I "kill" your expectation, but if you wish your camera have such features, I think you have to wait for ages.

It's to seek more information, if there is.

What do you think ?

ok... obviously u missed my sarcasm.

my point, to put it bluntly, is forget about the rumour-mill. wats the point abt chasing down every single rumour abt nikon's next big-thing? u want a camera, u buy a camera, u shoot the camera and be happy abt it. period. if you are one of those who constantly fret abt the next big-thing over the horizon, hence unsure abt whether to buy now... probably u are better off with a PnS.

i've learned to tuned out to all these rumours long time ago. when the next big-thing comes, it will come. so why bother...

I understand your points, but will ya respect other people points and needs as well ? What's wrong in seeking information ? Isn't it the purpose of forum ? (perhaps i should change the title from "Rumour" to "Seeking Information"

What I want to get is INFORMATION, appreciate any information you guys can give, but I suggest to leave any sarcasm (I did not start it) out of discussion.

theres nothing wrong with seeking information. but because rumours will forever be rumours, and i can also say that nikon will have a new entry level dslr with wifi built in and dual SD cards or even a CF+SD card slot for overflow.

take such rumours with a pinch of salt. if everything u see and u take it seriously, theres is totally no fun in CS anymore. theres nothing wrong in asking for information really.

But if you were to participate in the threads in both N and C camps. such jokes happen very occasionally.

and btw, those things we said is very small stuffs.... u havent seen jokes where we tried to think of all the possible things we can put inside.... :bsmilie:

be nice. be open to jokes too... afterall. its all about learning and enjoying the experience here...

i think if there were reallya semi pro FF coming soon, it would probably cost abt $5k...and probably would not kill of the D300 :dunno:

IMHO, even if there is one..... my guess if wouldnt be even released by 2009 end....

but i wouldnt rule out the possiblity of Nikon releasing a semi pro full frame. but definately NOT now and NOT soon.....:)

Actually it is difficult to release a semi-pro FF camera given the specs of D300 and D3 are so close.

so you mean, dont kill the D300 but kill the D3. no point coming out with a semi pro at 5K since, at 2K more, you can get the top end model already. also how much can you cripple the camera just to make it fit between D300 and D3 and still be able to price it at 5K.

Ya, almost there. But not quite true for the 1st part.
