You're missing the "s" on D300, but I read it earlier and their statement reminded me why I didn't upgrade to the E-3. The problem is that what does "almost on par" really mean?
  • Image quality so good that 6 MP difference doesn't matter
  • Low light noise handled fairly well, but still more noticeable than lower-end (semi-pro) competitors

Anything is possible, but it doesn't sound extremely positive. Of course, at this point, they're still at pre-production firmware levels and it will be a month or two after the body is in users' hands that there will be proper updates.

Hopefully, it will be better than it should be for 2011 instead of what the E-3 was.

Well, "s" or no "s" the difference in IQ is negligible, except for a video function. The D3 & D3s also very similar in IQ except for video as well. We can only wait & see what this new E5 brings to the table, hopefully another must have feature that others will soon follow :D

D3s also higher ISO right? I also hope to see another must have feature, will be interesting to see, I was wondering a few days ago, what more can they come up with that hasn't already been done, and with the rumors, got me even more excited ;)

Yes D3s has higher ISO but when u look at ISO 200 - 6400, the IQ difference is negligible. Of cos D3s has a few more features but thats about it. It a pretty good cam mind u :) not saying that its bad, its juz the "upgrade" is not so significant. Maybe the E5 unique feature is a special light amplifier for that super low lighting shoot that makes hi ISO a thing of the past?:devil::bsmilie:

Sigh, I am only sadden by good cameras = super heavy. Otherwise I would have kept the D3.

the D700 is very similar to the D3 and it is much lighter. If you need the vertical grip, is the E3+grip lighter?

not really. I think the D3 to D3s had quite a bit of measurable improvement in high ISO. But the D300 to D300s did not show much improvement. Weird.

So I am waiting for the D700s or even better a cheap D700x

Its still different. I thought about the D700 but it does not work for me.

I never said the D3/s isn't good :bsmilie: Just that I got no money to get one and nothing I do now justifies the cost of getting a D3 with lenses  Though if you ask if I want and if I'm sponsored, I'd like to have one to play with otherwise, I'd stick to my Olympus ;)

any news of the new Oly model coming out???

Oh no, dun get me wrong, i didn't say u mentioned that the D3s is bad. I'm juz explaining myself that what i said is not meant to be taken negatively against it.

The light amp can work le. HAHAHAHA!! Oly needs to put another filter in front of the sensor & this filter behaves similarly to a polariser except that its control by electric current. With booster ON, the filter will "polarise" the light waves making them more coherent & thus increasing the intensity striking the sensor. Maybe can gain 4 stops. So imagine ISO 6400 looking like 400, 25600 looking like 1600. YUMMY!!! Think of it as every pixel now has a magnifying glass in front of it.

But wait!! It doesn't juz stop there. When u reverse the current, the light amp also attenuates the light intensity making it a "natural" ND filter by 4 stops as well!! No need to use ND filter & degrade IQ, this native one works best. HAHAHAHAHA!!!

How cool is that? Surely other makers will want to follow. Oly can make lots more by licensing patents. :p

Heard it'll be announced in Photokina. Hopefully we dun see another E5 made out of wood block!! :bsmilie:

Haha, no worries, just messing with ya  I honestly do not understand at least 50% of what you said, but the idea sounds very interesting and probably doable, you should move to Japan and work in R&D instead :bsmilie:

I haven't been following the rumors. But here's what I do know.

A new model will be announced before photokina.
Isit the E5? I don't know.
Isit a flagship model? Yes.

That is more or less that's all available, along with new features not found on any DSLR yet(from rumors), not much longer lads ;)

Of course, the flagship model was just finalised this week. So obviously no one outside Olympus has any solid info.

But since this is a speculation thread, anything I said is just is probably just baseless speculation of a olympus user ;)

Go Japan for R&D work no kick la. Shud go to US & R&D for NASA. :bsmilie::lovegrin:

But 1st, someone needs to hand me a scholarship to Caltech to study QED. I'm a fan of the legendary Mr Feyman

Guys! Canon 60D lai liao... I hope the E-5 can trounce that cam hands down man! ='(

OOT: I actually first saw the picture of the 60D and thought it was a Oly E-40. :bsmilie: I think they copy Oly sia!!! hehehe...:sticktong

They said that they re-worked the ergonomics, finally.
