I am truly curious as to what this important feature could be on the E-5. As for the iq almost being on par with the 7D or D300, maybe what they are trying to say is that a 12mp camera is producing and image that is almost equivalent to an 18mp camera, isn't that suppose to be a good thing?

I would take everything that site says with a pinch of salt.

Wake me up when there is a kopi session for the new release.

D300 is the same era camera as the E3 and 7D image is below than that of the original 5D which is a 12mp...do u still think it a good news?

Good observation but it is also not right to compare 7D with 5D which has a larger sensor.

Canon market 7D as flagship of APS-C. Before that was 50D. So Canon has up an ante in APS-C market. Nikon is bound to join in the fray. How? I don't know. A fairer comparison with extensive testing can only be concluded when Olympus and Nikon eventually released their respective replacement for E-3 and D300s. Canon may refresh 7D. To win confidence, Olympus has to be ahead of all these replacements, not playing catch-up or have its advantage negated after 3 months in the market.

Let's wait for Photokina.

More importantly I guess would be, will the images be better than that of those coming from the PENs currently? That is what catches my attention

The 7D and D300s are the flagship APS-C cameras, so the E5 will have to match or better them (and their replacements!)

I don't think it will be a 12mp sensor though - the latest Panasonic sensor is 14mp.

Ahh.. that does sound bad.. i really hope they are referring to the iso performance instead when they are putting it on par as those 2. Not that i can't live with iso 800 and above. Iso 400 is still fine with me. :bsmilie:

what is better? to me it's whole system (not just IQ), that makes using E-system a pleasure. but that's just me, that's why i opt for m43 for my needs.

i also think this was an interesting read from Akira Watanabe about 12mp is enough
http://www.zdnet.com/news/olympus-12-megapixels-is-enough/276512

actually i thought the E5 would be or replaced by what was rumored to be modular camera? which I would be more keen as i can use m43 lens. again, just a rumor, so i am eagerly waiting for photokina, so i agree with u, let these rumors be just rumors till dust had settled:)

I can't remember where I heard that the E-5 will not be a modular camera, but who knows?Maybe the next one will be?;)

Yes, we should be comparing systems to systems. However, the current advantages of the E-system are more than compromised by the comparatively poor sensor (in terms of resolution, ISO, DR).

For the E-system to survive, this E5 must sell, and sell well. To do that, it has to be truly remarkable, and a step above what the competition has to offer.

Of course, it needs to be marketed well too. But that's a different story.

i hope it will be too, it's far too long since e3, would be sad if 4/3 and great lenses are discontinued.

I think less than a month,is it announced on 15th Sept? I somehow got the impression for that day, everyone start counting down! I shall countdown after my exams! :bsmilie:

As far as I'm aware of, Olympus do not have major product (camera related) announcement on a Wednesday.

Are you using Germany or Singapore time or a mixture of both?

Honestly speaking,I have no idea :bsmilie: I can't even remember where I heard that its announced on 15th,but shouldn't be local time

Juz read a rumour over at 43rumors.com not sure how true but if its true, then quite sad :bheart:

"Early samples of photos taken with the E-5 shows that the picture quality is almost on par with the D300s and 7D.”

I dun quite rate the 7D & D300 as having great IQ & if E5 is merely "almost on par", then the IQ must be quite disappointing (that means a 12MP is worse than a 18MP)

U guys can read the full monty here
http://www.43rumors.com/

Not sure whats that source standard is?

You're missing the "s" on D300, but I read it earlier and their statement reminded me why I didn't upgrade to the E-3. The problem is that what does "almost on par" really mean?
  • Image quality so good that 6 MP difference doesn't matter
  • Low light noise handled fairly well, but still more noticeable than lower-end (semi-pro) competitors

Anything is possible, but it doesn't sound extremely positive. Of course, at this point, they're still at pre-production firmware levels and it will be a month or two after the body is in users' hands that there will be proper updates.

Hopefully, it will be better than it should be for 2011 instead of what the E-3 was.

You seems to suffer from serious memory lapse or something else might had whispered next to your ear! :bsmilie:

By the way, no one is questioning you honestly here. :sticktong

Shh.... Now 7th month cannot say such things :bsmilie: Anyway,I see quite a lot of things, impossible for me to remember every tiny detail, much less of things that do not bother me much, the release of the E-5 date doesn't bother me much, whether or not its out is another story altogether XD

Without a doubt that earlier is better, hahahaha, thanks a lot! Lucky for me,its just exam, without an s, so I have a whole half a year free after Sept from mugging for exams though I still have school :bsmilie:
