Ricoh GXR! - Season II

Just got GXR back from service centre, my GXR is beyond repair, due to some water seepage (which I have no inkling where that water could have come from), so will be using it till it's fried, luckily it's still usable.

Took APD 3 calls, & 11 good days to get back to me, although must admit the service guy had given me excellent service.

Went for a rare sunset shoot with it, trying to remind myself amidst all the new gear lust, I still like the GXR alot.

Usual landscape setup GXR+A12 MOUNT + Voigtlander 12mm/5.6 LTM.

What does it mean? It cannot be fixed ?
I agree that the service guy is very friendly.

Can't be fixed, fw can't be upgraded. I didn't realize there's slight water seepage between camera and module, as I have only one module in place all the time past 9 months. Everything else works as per normal. Based on the experience so far, I would say it's been really pleasant to deal with the technical manager (I think was his position), he even brought me into his work area to show me what could have gone wrong. Though they could have been much responsive instead of need to call 3 times. They didn't charge me at all, though I brought in for dust problem.

Anyway i sold mine already... Fun while it lasted but it got pros and cons la. Like any other camera system...

GXR A12 50mm

With the black and white jpegs straight out of the camera being very good, there's little or no need to use post processing software like Silver Efex Pro to achieve nice B&W results. With the GXR, file sizes aren't big and time during post is kept very low. The GXR has quite a lot of options but once you've got the hand of it the camera is very easy to use as a street/snapshot camera.

GXR is not the easiest tool to MF especially if cat is not that cooperative, have had fair share of hit & misses :) If the EVF is better or tilt screen would be good. Perhaps try a different mode of focus peaking?

I had just bought a Fuji XE-1 and had tested it just now at about 9.30pm. Both GXR and the XE-1 were fitted with the M35f1.4 wide open at ISO800. The GXR was noisy, but looks more like film grain while the XE1 was somewhat smoother. However the GXR colors were cleaner, more me, while the XE1 was a bit flat, a bit muddy.

GXR requires less PS for it to look right while the XE1 requires a bit more tweaking. Even then, I prefer the GXR. A bit disappointing as I was hoping that the XE1 would be noticeably better in everything including colors than the GXR as I need 2 bodies for my M lenses - getting too lazy to change lenses. Naturally they are all sharp.

Sorry, still did not have the patience to learn how to post images here except at the gallery.
