I've seen a lot about the GRD IV's B&W capabilities. Can anyone share with me what it is that is so good about taking B&W shots with this camera please? I brought it out to Bt Timah Hill recently and absolutely loved the pictures I took with it. Just scratching my head a little on trying to appreciate the B&W shots I took too.

not all the shots need to be in B&W..its better to leave it in colour than to convert it B&W for the sake of it..

It can remove the distraction of color.
But at other times, color can be more effective.

B/w or color, its a artistic choice, don't follow w/o thinking abt which makes Your shot better.

A lot of cameras can do pretty good b/w after customization in the camera.
GR is no different.

Thanks everyone. I will try to remember what you all have said when I next bring my GRD IV out. :)

Is the startup time really like 2+ secs as I read online? So slow ah..
Or is tht b4 some firmware update?

I think it may be better for you to really try it out and see if the startup time is a deal breaker, rather than keep commenting on how slow it starts up and how come the latest firmware doesn't shorten the startup time. btw, starting up the camera is also pretty noisy, so you may want to take that into consideration.

This is a great PNS with small sensor that give deep DOF & Ricoh is moving toward large sensor with shallow DOF now.
This may be the last great little cam from Ricoh.

Honestly,
the slow start up time doesn't affect me to get the shot!
It does come with reasonable battery life,
which you can leave your cam always on :)
