hmm I had that same issue too until i realized the minimum focusing distance is about 38cm ...... so yeah, you cant get 'up close' to the subject

Yes the minimum focus distance is the only let down of this lens

hmm... I was holding the object in 1 arm length, maybe thats the reason....

Did a quick random check, min. focus distance for the 50mms of various brands - 0.38m doesnt look that bad afterall.

1. Canon 50mm f1.4 0.45m
2. Nikon 50mm f1.4 0.45m
3. Sigma 50mm f1.4 0.38m
4. Leica Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 0.70m
5. Leica 50mm f/0.95 Noctilux 1m :p

6. Voigtlander Nokton 25mm f/0.95 for m4/3 is 0.17m :bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

Lol!! Win lor ;p

Anyway point I was trying to make is that 0.3m (i just checked official specs) seems to be within norms for 50mm primes.

When its this lens coming? Japan amazon has it sale already...

And these distance are normally measured from the sensor plane to the object (which includes the camera body and lens). For m4/3, the camera body and lens are smaller, so maybe thats why have a impression that the distance from lens tip to object is further away compared to say a 60D to 50mm lens.... :)

Any mods or folks know when is launch date for this lens in SG? Email Panny SG, no reply :dunno:

Let me check for you

Disappointed with Panny SG - emailed them and they finally replied, saying that:

"As inform by our marketing department, any new product launch information will be published online and facebook. You may visit them to check out the latest launch and promotion."

Non reply...i cannot even find Panny SG FB. Anyone can share link?

Seriously, if you key in 'Panny' you might not find anything.

What, exactly is 'Panny SG'?

Key in 'Panasonic Singapore'.

Best.

Yup have tried that of course :p Panny SG is of course short form for the purposes of posting...

Hit the words "Pana", you will get some suggestions already. If u enter "panasonic singapore" you get a individual page who says that he has worked at Panasonic Singapore Laboratories. Ended up have to add in Panny global and Panny Asia.

Sad to not see the FB link on the SG website either.

Cheers.

this lens is coming to shops next week.

Very hard to support local shops if the lens can be bought in US at sgd769, not factoring shipping at $30.

RRP is $899. Shops normally sell at around 10% lower which could be around $800, which I say its not worth buying overseas, given that you can't test or see the product until its shipped here.

Unless you going holidays or business trip, then maybe can buy, but I am not too sure about overseas warranty though.
