Review: Nikon's newest line - the Nikon 1 series V1 and J1 cameras

Some more images

f5.6 using a 30- 110mm zoom kit lens at 110mm

Personally the background (the granite floor and furniture legs) looks rather decent to me considering the type of lens

Close up. Look at the DOF between the back and front of the cap and then also the background

Let's look at how shallow the DOF is on a cat face.

Close up look.
The red circled area is the focus area, whereas the purple circled is the rear. Considering a depth of a couple of cm, again I think this is pretty decent.

The next two images is not to show how sharp the lens is but more on how it handle the dark subjects and the shadow areas as well as the performance of the iso at 3200. Also the VR performance,. Image taken hand held not resting on any support too.

1/13secs, f5.6, Auto white blance, matrix meterring, ISO 3200, Manual mode

Details in a black cat.

My good friend, Bryan Foong aka "Lumiere" sent me a few casual images, that was taken on a J1 while he was at work.

I like the new sensor technology. Phase detection AF embedded into the sensor and enable full time Phase detection during video.

Now, whats the point of sony having to put a pellicle mirror for the PDAF?

Obviously phase detection is only for video and not for still photography. I still experience inability to focus if the contrast of the target is low particularly under low light conditions.

From the website. Nikon definitely said the PDAF is for still and video. It's still new I guess. Hopefully they could enhance it and include it in their upcoming DSLR models. :)

ok more sample images of what this camera can do

conclusion, this is not a DSLR, it was not meant to be a DSLR replacement
so you need to have a different mindset on its use and capabilities
even the controls need some getting used to,
but once you get to know the camera you will find that this is meant to be a fun camera
the feature sets are targeted for a different market segment

but i must say that it is really small and its small size is not as threatening as a big professional looking DSLR
which made my photo taking less of a worry to my subjects
