GF vs EP
From wat i read,

AF speed... GF, milliseconds??
Metering....EP
Flash ........GF, looks kind of complicated
ISO...........EP
EVF...........GF, low res though, so not sure how useful for manual focussing.
Cost..........??
Built-In IS..EP
LCD..........GF, but does not equate sharper output pic.
Art filter....EP
Weight......GF, lighter means less sturdy?
Color........EP
Fast lens...GF
Looks........EP

Most impt, XMM attraction... definitely EP-1!

PS: i Love my LX3, but for now, my hands are all over my EP-1

Guys, what exactly is a 'macro' lens? Does it mean that it can't take nice landscapes and normal shots (non close-ups)?

The 45mm f/2.8 macro is optically the best of all the mFT lenses, plus it's branded leica, so too expensive for most of us?

macro lense can still be used for non-macro, but you just need to be more patient with the focusing. may be not wide enough for landscape, but you should still be able to take photo of half of the mountain :bsmilie:

well... the 90mm focal length in 35mm equivalent is usually said to be within portrait lens range...

it's just weird that leica's first mft lens is a macro lens ;p

interesting specs, should expect ep-1 price to have some price adjustments soon, and maybe good time to buy new or from buy&sell section

So does it means Oly flash like FL50R/36R are compatible :think:to be used on this GF-1?

Thanks a million:)

I guess so,most probably but I'm not completly sure

Good a new competitor and a new lens...can panasonic 20mm f1.7 mount to ep-1 but still get the autofocus function?if so then, should get the lens;)

about ep-1 and gf1,it depend back on the user,i prefer ep1 because of the white color and retro look,IS in body and of course the art filter(my favorite)....

what i like from GF1?
builtin flash, faster autofocus(i hope it faster significantly,at least comparable to GH1:bsmilie:),Viewfinder...

but still ,i love my ep1...hahaha

I am 100% sure that you can mount the panasonic 20mm f1.7lens to E-P1 and get autofocus since it IS FOLLOWING THE MICRO FOUR THIRDS STANDARD,if it cannot, probably they should bang their head

Any idea if the G1/GH1 battery is better than the E-P1? And how long does it take to charge the G1 battery?

Going to dump the E-P1 and get the GF1. The battery performance on the g1/gh1 should be similar to the GF1.

The E-P1 battery takes 3 hours to charge. On average a fully charged battery gives me about 150 photos for my style of shooting.

If i go on trip, an intensive day will probably see me using 3 batteries. I see a problem that I'll have to breakup my sleep to re-charge the batteries at night.

So far I've traveled and worked with 2 batteries on other cams whereby I have more shots per battery charge and charging time is 2 hours or less.

3 batteries works the best if 2 batteries can last you a day. Charge #1 in the day and bring out #2 & #3. Charge #2 over night. Next day, charge #3 and use #1 & #2.

Try setting the "FN" button to turn off backlight for the LCD monitor. That way you conserve a lot of battery power.

Hi spidey89:)

Thanks a million, bro;) at least I get a response/feedback and I can understand that since (I believe nobody try it with FL36R as yet, pls correct if wrong:)) so not to worry and your effort is appreciated:thumbsup:Thanks once again:cool:

Wahhh like that ahhh...:bigeyes:to me that's just too 'little-juice' to 'quench my cam's thirst' for a day:thumbsd: Infact, frankly speaking, I almost wanna plunge my $$$ on this EP-1 but luckily:sweat:didn't cos re-think:think:/bought LX3 first then wait for this GF-1 come appear/arrive:thumbsup:better this way(was just my thought then).

It's a 20/1.7, and like all micro 4/3s they'll work with a 4/3 lens adapter. In fact on B&H the Panasonic adapter is cheaper than the Olympus...

The Panasonic adapter doesn't allow auto focus of all Olympus lenses the way the Olympus adapter does, so it's cheaper at a price. If you're happy with manual focus, it doesn't matter.

I'm just catching up on all this, but I noticed that the EVF attachment can go vertical for overhead viewing. Anyone want to replace their 20 y.o. medium format camera with one of these? It still sounds extremely useful in macro photography.

And with that Leica lens... why not?

With the pop-up flash to be at the side of the GF1, there is a chance that we can use a hot-shoe flash (bounced) and the pop-up flash at the same time (just like the 'old' E-300/E-330).

Will have to wait and see whether that is possible when the camera actually becomes available.

More photos.... look at that 100-300mm!!

I see what you mean... setting it up like two flashes, built-in flash for subject and the hotshoe flash to light-up the room. much like Metz 58 when pointed upwards.

That would be good indeed, as for the lens... I am with YSLee 14mm f2.8

Unlikely will happen unless you use a hotshoe sync cable... the hotshoe flash will block the pop-up flash's 'space'.

Same here, can't wait to see the Olympus pro model. If they want the word "pro" to be justified, it should have a viewfinder. I bought the E-P1 specifically for its size, excellent ISO, and the superb metering which reminds me of my old OM-4.

That Panasonic GF-1 looks fine too, it satisfies my requirement for size, but in-camera IS is more effective IMHO. It also allows us to have IS with any lens whether antique or new that we mount on the body. This IS becomes critical for these cameras without VF, some have to shoot at arm's length.

I would still like to see the Olympus pro model target by year end (supposedly). In-camera IS preferred over Lens-IS, of course if have swivel LCD and EVF would be good.

yup, you are right. But it was indeed a good thought, hope the Olympus camp heard this. Still waiting for their year end model.

In camera IS much preferred as you stated, legacy manual lenses would enjoy the benefits. Shoot at arm's length? hoi describing me ah? :sweatsm:
