I'm wondering if there is anyone here who has used electronic rat traps which uses electricity to kill rats and can share their experiences in using them similar to the one below? and where can I buy them in singapore? and how much do they cost?

Also would like to know where to buy those normal live baited rat trap cages in singapore? and how much do they cost? as pictured below?

Using poisons and glue traps are not an option as there are other people and dogs who are sensitive to glue and poisons.

Have already checked home-fix diy, self-fix diy and Ikea which does not carry both electronic rat trap nor the normal rat trap cage.

honestly, i used to catch rats in my house every other night.... rat glue is the BEST ... I can vouch for it :sweat:

what the other traps cant catch, the GLUE can :thumbsup:

dun waste time on those cages or electronic traps ... I ve tried most .... rats are very intelligent


maybe u can try to restrict your pets from the trap areas ?

The most friendly way is to have a few cats at the rat infested area. It is almost guaranteed you wont see anymore rat after a few days.

Otherwise, call the rat experts. They will catch them using baits. These baits are poison, but you can tell them you have a dog or kids around. They will know what to do.

i second using glue. the cage method is very slow and u need to drown them when u catch them. too much work.

glue is stick n throw. sometimes can land lizards also.

After that, just rinse it with hot water and dish washing liquid to get rid of the rat urine smell should the rat urinate in the cage, as the smell of rat urine will prevent prevent other rats from entering the rat trap cage in future.

Does anyone know if there is any do it yourself shop that sells rat trap cage?

It's like a punishment to the rat for ruining the food at home and it provides a slow painful death. No instant death.

I know because last time I lived in those old shop houses infested with rats and my grandpa used to catch them all the time.
Then he'll put the cage in a pail and pour boiling water over the rat. The rat will squeak and jump vigorously until it die.
Not a pretty sight. And the sounds it made when the hot water is splashed onto it is HORRIFYING!

Killing a rat on the pot with hot water is cruel. But it is very effective. The cries from the dying rat will send shivers down the spine of its comrades. They will disappear for a short period. But they will learn to be smart. they will avoid the cage next round.

Another way is to use electricity followed by hot water. Dam cruel, but the message is "dont screw around with the boss here.." hehe

Honestly, why not keep some stray cats? You can shoo them out during the night. The smell of cat's presence is a good rat deterrent. of course, get young healthy cats and not the hopeless garfield.

My kampung just drowned the rats if they have "tangki" or water barrel tank at the yard. 2nd choice would be the pouring hot water. But those are the best way, after that just disposed the rats properly or burnt.

We don't really believe the cats can keep the rats away. Most of the cats we seen are well fed, they only catch the rat if they saw and feel like toying it... This also happen in Kampung.

I don't know about the so called urine smell keeps other rats away, because the rat cage is used & used & used again. It's only the bait you used matter. Honestly, I have never tried the cheese as bait. Our baits are palm oil fruit or dry coconut.

Perhaps that's why it's more common to use glue in Singapore where you can limit or warn others not to get close to the trap place.

The cats in the neighbourhood instead of catching rats, are more afraid of them. Sometimes even see rats chasing cats instead.

har? this type of Ang Moh DIY Stores Phua Chu Kang will never go one, you must try those Ah Huat Hardware Stores, you can find planty at Geylang, Balestair or Jalan Besar areas.

Anyway, I can't give you much personal advise cause I terrified of rats.

But looking at how effective NEA has made use of glue to capture rats at the Geylang Serai hawker centre, I guess that will be a very good option. 60 over rats in one night :thumbsup: :faint:

Yeah the 'glue' approach can be very effective, as long as you plant them along the rodent's usual route. I've been using them to get rid of rats, big and small but all these while I never look forward to discarding the trap with the stuck rodent ... it's always a hair-raising experience! :sweat:

What would you suggest then?

I strongly recommend not powering the trap for the 1st week after you brought it, just place the bait will do. This will allow the rats to get acquainted and comfortable with the trap. Once that happens, let the slaughter begins. :bsmilie:

get the glue type and place them at your prefer place (to minimise alergy effect and reach of child) with a bait if you can't find those cage in "ah huat" hardware store.

In singapore, can we ask the help of town council cleaner to dispose the "glued" rat?
