Is 15-85mm with 70-200mm f4 IS a good setup?

It would be an excellent setup! This would give you a solid range from 15mm to 200mm. Excellent coverage! With the purchase of a good 1.4x or 2.0x teleconverter your range could even be extended to 280mm or 400mm on the long end. Go for it!

It is a good combination, but I would not suggest any 2x tele converter for the 70-200mm f4 as the aperture of f8 (with the 2x converter) is a tag too slow to freeze any action.

8 ppl vote only you say "so many"?

Okay my answer to your question is to get a lens that suit yourself. If your bf feeling that the range is a little redundant and also getting blurry pics indoors he can consider switching to a faster lens. For the EFS range the 17-55 and 15-85 are the ones to take note .

Hope this helps..

i think it also depends on what ur bf wants to take. aperture of 2.8 will be better for indoor. 24-70?

what i can say is don't change just bcos other ppl are changing or are using something else..

only change becos you need to... the build, the range the IQ the sharpness, the aperture, the focusing etc...

Saw few questions on whether to change a better len..so my question will be "does buying a really good lens make that big a difference in sharpness? Definitely!"

Few years ago when i was starting DSRL and like the other biginners was using the kit len 18-55 (without IS somemore). I had been shooting with this for years, and in one day, afterseeing what a difference a really sharp lens made on 17-55mm F/2.8, I wouldn't shoot with my old lens again. We all know that gd len not cheap, but like anything else in photography (and in life), the really good stuff costs more.

So, if you're thinking of buying a normal zoom lens, sharpness clearly isn't your biggest
priority. A quality lens is an investment, and as long as you take decent care of it, it will give
you crystal clear photos that inexpensive lenses just can't deliver.

Hi Fatfish , it was a nice leaf picture there . Indeed , 17-85mm was a powerful lens .

Add me as your contact ;-)
