why so few ppl vote for 15-85? is it because it's new or because of the something else?

They are hoping to get the dramatic 24mm wide feel like in a 35mm format using 15mm in crop

15mm x 1.6 = 24mm

Hoping to get 17-55 f2.8, heard a lot of good things about this lens.

in that case this should be popular then. i think ppl still waiting for the price to drop, which i think can be eternity

kind of considering the new Sigma 17-70 F2.8-4.0 OS HSM. Wonder if any of the 7D brothers here have tried that lens on the 7D?

just kinda curious, could someone explain why the 17-55mm f2.8 is such a popular choice?

This lens is indeed interesting. Its sort of a mix between a 24-70 F2.8 and 24-105 F4 IS on a full frame.

Can anyone say what the widest aperture is at 45 or 50mm?

I think i’m getting a 17-55 over a 15-85.

For me the choice was really f2.8 versus 15mm wide end on a walkaround. Really hard decision seeing as so many sources indicate the 15-85 is almost or at the level of the 17-55. In the end I think I mostly shoot indoor events so I would need the f2.8 more than the wide end. Hope i don’t regret my decision! :P

yes, its so much joy to have constant aperture of 2.8 in indoor situations..

You won't go wrong with a 17-55 ;)

in my opinion...7D is weathersealed. great for the outdoor, rugged and adventurous shooter. so for me, being outdoor-ish and constantly perspiring from all the trekking...i'd get the 17-40 for the build. at least i know it can tahan all the dust, perspire and knocks - and most importantly it feels great on the hands cuz its build is really excellent. i can't stand the zoom creep on 15-85 and the wobbly feel on the 17-55...

indoor..outdoor... whatever...

unless u want more zoom...

the 17-55 2.8 is a must have for cropped bodies imo...

very versatile... and very good IQ..:thumbsup::thumbsup:

It's easier to segregate between ur options of these 3 lenses.

If u need a fast lens (F2.8), there is only the 17-55
If you need more range/reach, then 15-85 is the one for you
If you need to have an L lens, then can get 17-40. However, when on a 1.6 crop factor cam, the range will be ard 27mm to 64mm range. so you will need to see if you are comfortable with these range on a crop factor cam.
