I was thinking of this combi

Canon 7D

EF-S 10-22 IS USM Landscape

EF-S 17-55 f2.8 IS USM Walkabout

EF-S 70-200 f2.8L Portrait / Sports

EF 35mm f2.0

EF 85mm f1.8 USM

17-55 + 7D arm aches :think:.
You must try 1D + 24-70L and see how light is your gear ;).
LOL! That's not just heavy, it's expensive. I can't imagine what would happen if I dropped it :(

I suggest getting the lenses one at a time . The journey will I dare say be more fulfilling than getting all at one go :)

1D is built like tank, i don't think u will see any problem there but i cannot say same about 24-70 :sweat:.
I used 1DM3 for a while and loved it but only thing missing for me was Movie mode.
Back to topic, If you are going to stay in crop then 17-55 will be the best lens for 7D else get 24-105 (can be used in full-frame and 1D series if you decided to change in future)?

+1. I think 17-55 will be the best choice to get for now. Unless you want to test all in one go then by all mean get all (and of-course have cash in hand ;)).

After 2 years of photography, I've already know what type of photography catergory I prefer.

Thus by placing all lenses down, I would ultilize the lenses when I get it.

EF 85mm f1.8 USM

Close to my ideal combi, but I would prefer my primes to be Sigma 30mm and 50mm :)

If i am keen on taking portraits would the 17-55 be good enough...?

EF 17-40 F4L USM-----> landscape & walkabout
EF24-105 F4L IS USM--> streets & portraits
EF70-200 F4L IS USM--> sports & wildlife
Sp 90 F2.8 macro---> Macro & portraits
Nikon 50 f1.4 AI with Nikon - EOS adaptor ---> low light

The above are what i am using now. Of cos i fully ultilize these lens. .

yes it will do more than enough. bokeh at f2.8 is awesome

well. i do wanna buy the 35mm f2.0 as it is small thus attending functions like wedding or a dinner, it is more practical for me.

The 17-55 is not really known as a portrait lens but should suffice. It is sharp and good in low light.

A good option would be the 85 f/1.8 prime. Very sharp lens and great brokeh! Also, not too expensive!

Thks for your recomendation. I would be taking portraits in low lighting as well... any ideas bro would receommend a popular len for portraits...?

17-55 is widely recomended for general walkabout also for portraits so is like dual funcation for me... hahaha

Hi guys..

If you could get a canon or sigma 50mm 1.4 @ the same price, which would you choose and why?

i will still get canon although canon's USM has problem due to its design

Hi all bro out there... thk for all valuable feedback. Yes, i rented out 7D wioth EF-S 17-55... it seem q good. For taking portraits... hmm... gd enough...except sometimes zoom might not be far...

However i am smitten by the guy who rent me lenses... he recommend using 24-70mm f2.8L with 7D... how is tt combination going to work? any exp out there?

24-70 f2.8 is a good sharp lense. But if you don't have a rock steady hands, then at 70, may be a bit blurry. It is also a heavy lens. I myself use the 24-105 f4 and find it good enough for day to day use ... The IS helps ;). Then you can play around with primes

Only get EF-Ss if you are not going to upgrade to full fram :cool:

I'm using that combo as my everyday walkabout lens. It's great, but I would suggest a grip, and also make sure you know how to hold your DSLR properly so as to avoid any shakes to prevent blurry photos as there is no IS.

Sorry to butt in, but I came from the old film school, and the grip though important, is not the main means of supporting your gear when shooting - this is a fallacy. The correct way to shoot is to support the heavy lens and body with the left hand, then shoot with the right.

This is similar to when you go to the range for shooting in NS, the left hand supports the rifle, and the right you use to squeeze the trigger carefully.

If necessary, use your left elbow to rest on your chest for support to stabilize the whole rig.
