Anyway I tried out the 28-300, was quite amazed by the quality and sharpness even at 300mm.

yea. the quality is pretty good for a superzoom. the downside is the hood which feels filmsy and easily breakable.

I am curious with the lens sharpness at 300mm f/5.6.

Anyone own both 28-300 vr and 70-300 vr to compare with ?

I feel the 70-300 vr at 300mm f/5.6 is a bit soft.
Will 28-300 vr at 300mm f/5.6 be even softer ?

The 55-300 is a DX lens, the 70-300 VR is a FX lens. I'd rather get a 2nd hand 70-300 VR than a new 55-300 DX

D90 is a crop body and you'll be losing the wide when you switch to the 28-300mm. Your wide end will be 42mm on the D90 if you can live with that.

Better idea, trade the D90

Dude, the 55-300mm is SO MUCH LIGHTER than the 70-300mm VR. My friend got his one today and it's really nice.
