i just wish that the price will go down soon. since i intend to buy 2.8 lens this year.

seriously, if we were not in the middle of crisis, i would have bought that baby. but the economy kind of scare me (job security, etc) and then bam, nikon hike up the price.

Yes, and they'll sell at a higher price too. It is just an excuse. Old stock should be sold at the old price. It's the same when they sell rice :P

But anyway, you can't really stop the shops from selling at whatever price. It's just that imagine if there are two shops, A and B. Both have old stocks. A thinks he's very smart by selling the new high price, B ends up even smarter and sells his old stock at the old price, and proceeds to buy more new stock and sell at new price, hence being one-up over A.

A is only smart if there is a stock shortage, such that B after selling his old stock, can't replenish it. If stocks can be replenished, a smart retailer will sell as many as fast as possible.

I know soe stores are using the excuse of price increase to increase the price of their current stocks... but if you look at it from another point of view, they'll need the extra cash to buy the new stock too.

AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED (1.7x) $3399 (U.S. $2599) >>> This lens only cost $1.4k when it was introduced...when wanted to buy last yr, it rose to $2.2...and now...its $3.4k....really regret for not buying when jus introduced.... anyway I notice Nikon prices always increase during beginning of the year...

Wow, not bad, appreciate 100% in 2 years. Maybe I can sell mine now hehe :)

well said..

don't forget that WE are not the key contributors to their bottom line... their biggest market are (i) professional users (photojournalists, paid photographers); (ii) japanese market.

thus... group 1 - not price sensitive... no impact from price increase as they have to buy if they need the lenses.. since no lens, no work, no pay.

group 2 - price sensitive... thus Nikon has to take price up to reduce re-import of cheaper overseas lenses back to Japan due to stronger Yen.

there...

in times of urge and need (* called up a few shops to enquire while grounded)

prices seem to vary alot..

eg. 85mm F1.8 got quoted in variation from 650-690

50mm f1.8 from 185-200

50mm f1.4 D no stocks, AFS ard 820-860

sigma 30mm f1.4 from 730 to 780 (well sigma did increase price) and even heard grey sets increase too much such tt its not feasible to sell

shops called: Mscolor, LORDS, OP, John, AP :)

sorry guys, only prime lens since i am looking for a few rite now haha

go try CP Marina.. I think they still have a few pieces of 50/1.4D

You are mistaken, this lens was introduced last year, and it was never $1.4k but at 2.2k. Don't mistake it for the 12-24mmf4 .

I am closing this thread as the price have already increase and lets focus on taking good images and discuss the technical aspect of the equipment as this section of the forum is meant to be.

Not point beat the chest and cry foul or for not buying earlier etc etc.

To much KPT talk and rumours and assumption and perception etc etc
