It's time for us to focus on the skills than the gear

My Holy Trinity dream is drifting further and further liao

is this real? the lens prices look absurd to me now, especially when time's so bad.
who will want to buy when the price increased now ?

For the following, street prices are roughly:

AFS 24-70: $2750 Increase of nearly $500
AFS 60 Macro: $950 Increase of nearly $200
AFS 50 1.4: $850 Increase of approx $70 (This one's price probably already factored in the increase upon release since it's so new, so not so dramatic)

This as told to me by a major store dealer this evening, and one which many trust and buy from. The price increase is similarly dramatic for many other lenses but didn't have time to ask. Those who bought especially the trinity lenses earlier (14-24, 24-70, 70-200) or other major lenses like the 17-35, 105 VR, 60 AFS, for instance, have particular cause to cheer: the increase in prices makes most of their costs very prohibitive now.

Lord Soth, the dealers don't know if the prices are going to drop during the anniversary sale: this is one situation where even Nikon Singapore are not really sure since this very much depends on the world economy, currency prices, and signals from Japan.

What goes up will come down.

Anyway, just get what you need no point beating the chest and cry foul.

Nobody or even the sales people in Nikon would want an increase in price in times like this.

Cos it will definitely affect demand and also the sales commission of not only Nikon sales ppl but also the retailer and down the chain.

However sometime hard decision have to be made and I guess it a question of the devil and deep blue sea for the management of Nikon in Japan.

As I say before,

1. If you need the lens or equipment for work then buy if not rent, whichever make more economical sense.

2. If money is of no issue or you have a iron rice bowl job which deliver $$ every 10th of the month, then buy and enjoy the simple pleasures in life in photography or even collecting equipment

3. If $$ is presently an issue or you are uncertain of your job, income, etc then keep the spare cash to tide thru the uncertain time. Use whatever equipment you have and polish up your skill instead of relying on newer equipt and technology. There are other priority that may need immediate attention.

Cheers and keep our chin up
:)

Things that go up must come down....look at what happened to the oil price after cheong to the sky last year....hopefully the lens price crashed next year when I am ready

Bought what I needed at the right time ... POWER!!! :bsmilie:

with this steep increase, will Nikonians prefer to wait for price to drop or continue to buy the lens that they want?

Just Went to a couple of shop last evening, Nikon price has just increase appprox 20% overnight.

Have to put on hold my dream list.:cry:

on the bright side,

I think this is the first time my "investment" in camera gear actually appreciated. Maybe u can even make a profit in B&S CS :)

Wow! Bad Timing for Price Increase!! I wonder what was Nikon thinking...

Price Increase + Bad Economy = Less Sales = Factory Closure!!!

The management is thinking of maintaining, if not increase margin since top line is not going to increase.

Stakeholders and CEO's are measured on Margin not just revenue. ;p

The price hike for the trinity lenses is MADNESS!!

When is usually the Nikon Anniversary sales? Which month I meant.

don't forget that WE are not the key contributors to their bottom line... their biggest market are (i) professional users (photojournalists, paid photographers); (ii) japanese market.

thus... group 1 - not price sensitive... no impact from price increase as they have to buy if they need the lenses.. since no lens, no work, no pay.

group 2 - price sensitive... thus Nikon has to take price up to reduce re-import of cheaper overseas lenses back to Japan due to stronger Yen.

there...

in economics sense this is a typical strategy to exploit short term inelasticity and so minimize the impact to their top line. demand will adjust accordingly, and by then the reaction will be to drop price.

now that you know this, the question is: can you resist and wait?
