Hi..I'm newbie..

Please advice about Alan Photo Trading in Sim Lim Square..any clue about this shop?
Because I got info that they sell D90+18-105mmVR below $1600..

Just do a search on this shop.
See how many good reviews how many bad reviews, and you will know which shop to go to.

CANON has unveiled a new entry level DSLR EOS 500D with video capability. And judging from the beta pe-production, ... images and movie are damn good. This should prompt NIKON to bring down the D90 price to make it more competitive.

I sure hope so!

price doesnt seems to drop despite the introduction of D5000... :(

you might have to wait for about a year before a new model start to show noticeable but insignificant drop in price. D90 is quite new.

Just for comparison sake. U decide yourself whether the price will drop or not:devil: http://www.digitalreview.ca/content/Canon-Rebel-T1i-EOS-500D-Compared-to-Nikon-D90.shtml

before I buy my first camera, would like to hear from you guys....

I'm just wondering if the following are reasonable:

D90 body only + tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 lens = $2000

i intend to use D90 to learn photography. Is this the right way or should i stick with the Nikon kit lens instead?

seems like people around me are criticizing me in getting a nikon when they told me i can achieve the same results by recommending:

500D + 18-55IS + 55-250IS (Dual Kit lens) = $1690

or

500D + tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 lens = $1700

or

500D + 18-55IS(Kit lens) = S$1,260.00

Experts do shed some light if possible!

who are the jokers who are critising u? The D90 is a class above the 500D in terms of fps, build, noise control, ergonomics, functions.

i'm sure u've done sufficient research before deciding on the mentioned set up... i know many CS members here highly recommend the 17-50 Tamron. but i'm just thinking u may be better with a versatile wide zoom range lens the kit 18-105mm will offer u, since u mentioned u were new to photography, the kit will let u take resonable wide angle to zoom shoots, so u can decide on ur preference after some time of playing.

Hoi there... I am not an expert but I am sure that we are in the same situation (almost)...

From what I heard there is no way that you will get the same result with both of them... Each of them have their advantages... SO just pick which one is the best for you according to their pro and cons. Afterall, you are the one who use it.

And then I think (I THINK), for D90, first timer, better to stick to the kit... 18-105mm... can roughly feel 18mm side and 105mm side of this lens

Some good news.. Seems that most shops have already stock up their D90 with lots of freebies included for this coming comex show..

i agree with tunge, and get a affordable prime like 35mm f1.8 or the 50mm f1.8 to practice on the bokeh, u will love the result of ur pic! instant difference from point and shoot!

The 500d is like one level below the d90 in terms of features, but both can give you similar result if you know what you are doing with it. The tamron 17-50 af is really a little on the slow side, but IQ is good:thumbsup:. Try it at the shops and you will know what I am saying. I suggest getting 18-105 kit with 50/1.8 or 35/1.8 to see if you prefer zoom or prime. Some people die die need zoom lens, some prime users don't even zoom when using zoom lens, so must try out to see your needs.

after testing and handling the ergonomics,

i have decided on a 50D instead, along with a tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 (without BIM).

I know I am paying similar prices for an older model, but I like the ergonomics and consistency of the image quality after comparing the 50D and D90. Of course, I tested both cams using same AF and same ISO settings to be fair.

But then again, these comments come from a beginner and there is a lot to pick up.

thank you all once again!

good choice  for me it was between the D90 n 50D too... but u probably got bigger hands then so cos i prefered the handling of the D90 much better, found the 50D a tad too chunky...

Just to make you feel even better...50D is not a older model, it was released at the same time as the D90, so either way you would have gotten a 1 year old model.

BTW, I think all canon mount lens should have built in motor(if thats what bim is) because otherwise cannot af.

Sorry guys..

Any advice on where I can get a D90 second hand which is still under warranty?
Thanks..

Other than the Buy&Sell forum, u can try P&G at Adelphi basement.
There are also a few 2nd hand shops at Peninsular Shopping Centre which u can explore.
Good Luck!!! :)
