Price drop for Kx Body/Kit/200mm/300mm lens kit :)

Guys,

This is my first post and I am thinking of joining the dark side here, rather than with N or C.

However, I have the following queries which I hope I could get all the answer here, rather than in the different thread of the forum:

1. I have read in the forum that there is a place called "Manly" which offers competitive pricing, may I know where is this shop?
2. There are different packages available for K-x, single lens kit and a dual lens kit.
(a) I am looking at the dual lens kit, but are not sure whether a 55-200 or a 50-300 mm would be a better package to go for?
(b) I have read in this forum that there are DA and DA-L lens. What is the difference between the two?
3. Does the omission of physical AF "[[]]" in the viewfinder really makes focusing difficult?

Thank you.

2. The 55-300mm is generally the better and more flexible lens, but as expected is more expensive. You have to decide for yourself if you will need to do shooting in the 200-300mm range. DA-L lens doesn't come with a hood, doesn't support quick shift, and has a plastic mount.

3. The [ ( ) ] brackets in the view finder are still there, so you can use them to determine where the AF points are. What's missing is the red LED spot lighting up the AF point. I moved from the K10D which had the AF points light up to the K-x, and found it's really no big deal. I use center AF point only.. so really it's no problem at all adjusting.

i am starting to smell the k-X coming nearer and nearer into my embrace. *sniffs sniffs

i am having a headache here, i'm going on a vacation on the 17th of this month. if i were to get the k-X now, it'd be sweet to be able to bring it with me but i'm worried i'm not going to have enough time to get a hang off it since i'd probably only get... say, 1.5 weeks till i sit on the plane and poof out of singapore.

someone, help me? ):

IMO, should not be a problem getting to learn it quickly. You can always start off with setting everythign to auto, then slowly learn from there. The faster you buy it the more time you get to practice with it before you go... but 1 week is more than enough time :)

i sure hope 1 week is really enough. the best i can do is to keep playing with the k-X every evening when i get home after work because it's not funny carrying a camera and a laptop everyday to and fro work. :hung:

i've been using manual settings since the first day i got my prosumer, so.... should be okay hor? HAHAHA!

aww, a pity i cannot make it to the outing. i've got to work mondays-saturdays. ):

next time! but it'd sure be nice if they can help me. :bsmilie:

Wa what work have to work Saturdays too.

If you buy k-x, you and my gf and a few other gals, which I don't know them yet can form a Pentax gal club and go shooting together, all females, no men allowed.

Babydoll,

Let me assure you that the K-x is amongst the most user-friendly SLR in the market. I had not touched a SLR for >8 years now but my first encounter with the K-x was a breeze - I was shooting portraits @family event within the hour. In my pre-purchase comparison, I also did a handling test of the Canon 500D at the Vivocity showroom, and the supposedly user-friendly Canon was nowhere as intuitive to use for a 1st timer as our K-x.

The out-of-box default settings/configurations of the K-x are OK for shooting, so you really don't need to play with the "Menu" settings much. The typical shoot-settings eg. WB, Tv, Av, ISO, flash, EV compensation, metering, AF points are easy to find and access. They are all staring at you on the buttons or on the LCD. Very intuitive User-interface design.

Given that you had prosumer experience, picking up the K-x should be a breeze for you!!

i'm doing retail, tending to a showroom on my own. basically, my work takes up 6 days of my week with no public holidays off. :bheart:

the pentax girl club sure sounds good! hopefully i'd be able to join soon but given my kinda work schedule, there're times i cannot even make it to meet my friends. ):

Hi guys,

Just signed up as a new member in clubsnap. Intend to get myself PENTAX K-X which is highly recommanded from this forum.
Just called up Manly check on the stock for RED body + dual Kit (18-55mm + 50-200mm). But he mentioned for RED body, they only sell with the (18-55mm) len. For 50-200mm len(Red), I have to buy it separately. But they mentioned for BLACK body, they do sell as a set in dual kit.

May I know is it true? Or any of you knows where can I get the RED body + dual Kit set ?

Await for the soonest reply.

Thank you.
