Price drop for Kx Body/Kit/200mm/300mm lens kit :)

Sorry I'm a newbie :embrass:, but i would like to know the purpose of the 55-200mm lens. Does it let you zoom further? I know it is worth it but I would just like to know if I need it. Thanks!

55mm is your 3x zoom, 55 divided by 18.
So 200mm is 11x zoom.

Hope this layman explanation works for you.

And if I'm wrong, please correct me, find this explanation easier to understand since most has used zoom in a compact before. :)

been pointing new dslr entrants to the kx + 2 lens 300 kit ....... whats the situation with availability now ?

As far as I know, the dual lens kit is out of stock pretty much everywhere. You have to buy the one lens kit, and the 55-300mm lens alone. But better give those shops a call to find out, I might be wrong :)

Good luck btw.

Greeting all, New Pentax user!

Got my brand new black K-x 300mm dual kit from Mr Eugene Quek yesterday and lovin it.. As it dosen't come with bag, i bought a Lowepro Adventura 170 together.
Great service and honest guy and not pushy, won't hussle u to buy other accessories and items, Very sincere and i enjoyed the process chatting with him during the purchase of my k-x.
Total $11**.

Hope to learn and share with all Pentaxians here!
Thanks and cheers~

I'm guessing you were referring to the Eugene at Manly Chinatown?

Welcome to Pentax family btw :)

I'm afraid the way you calculated the zoom factor was wrong. A 18-55 lens has about 3x zoom factor (18 divided by 55), but a 50-200mm lens only has 4x zoom factor (200 divided by 50). You can't add two lenses' zoom ranges together to calculate their zoom factors, only one lens' zoom range. A 18-200mm lens does have a 11x zoom factor, but not 18-55 + 50-200 :) And a 1-200mm lens would have a 200x zoom factor ;)

Another thing you need to keep in mind is that a megazoom lens like 18-200 seem to have shorter focal length at the same focal range than a non-megazoom lens like 50-200, unless you shoot at far away target (infinity).

ok if after all the expert explaination but still you are unsure you need it or not...
as a newbie myself, i would get the 50-200mm package...
it is because one of the different between PNS and SLR is SLR can change lens...
Lets say you didn't go for the 50-200mm and only 1 len(18-55mm), sooner or later you will spend some more money to get another lens to interchange and play around... at that time you will never find a lens tat is auto yet the price is only $120!!!

so my point of view is, if you are newbie and unsure between single lens kit or dual with 50-200mm or dual with 55-300mm... just get the 50-200mm...
so you have the chance to try out to 200mm... if really don't no use... just take it as spend $120 for an exp... then you know what you are look for on the 3rd lens purchase...

yup ...welcome welcome :)

hi guys

it's my first post in this forums

my gf just bought me a K-x Dual Lens Kit with the 50-200mm

just wanna ask a few questions:

1) how big a dry box should i get if I just wanna fit in the body, the 2 lenses?
not planning to buy another body or lenses anytime soon.

2) where to find bayonet mount hood for the 18-55 locally?

Congrats on the new camera, and welcome to Pentax family :)

1) a 30L one will do.

2) you can buy it from ebay, a third party one which looks and works exactly as the original Pentax hood. Pls see the following thread under Pentax forum:

Good luck and happy shooting.

hi there.
thanks for the reply to my noob questions, but i've got more :bsmilie:

1) regarding the hood for 18-55
the thread you linked me regarding the hoods was great, thanks.
but in the thread, basically there are 2 ebay links,
Link 1
Link 2

Both are same model but according to Official Pentax Web Store, the details says that's it's compatible with the DA 18-55.

I understand that the only differences between DA and DAL is the light-weight build.
So am I right to say that the hood for the DA 18-55 is compatible with the DAL 18-55?

2) regarding dust and changing of lens.
i understand that if dust settles on the sensor or internals of the lens, there will be dust specks in the resultant pictures.

i was afraid that if i just change it with the opening facing skywards, dust would slip in.

so how do everyone change their lenses? face the opening downwards? :bsmilie:

1)If you see properly, both ebay links are the same.
2)Face anywhere also can.....just make sure the place you are changing your lenses is not a dusty environment(desert/dusty countries):)

hi there

the links are the same, that's what i said in my post.

i was asking about whether the 52mm PH-RBA is suitable for the DAL 18-55mm?

the exact same 52mm PH-RBA information on the Official Pentax WebStore states that it's compatible for the DA 18-55mm only.

i do understand that the optics for the 2 lens is the same, just the build material is different.

so my question was, is the Hood, which is designed for the DA 18-55mm, compatible with the DAL 18-55mm?

i am guessing it's compatible, but i just wanna make sure. :)

No.Not compatible.DA and DAL 18-55 uses different hood:)

You have to check if Bally's price include GST & it's not an export set.
I've almost bought a lens from them cheaper by $30 but luckily I asked for warranty thingy then they said it's for export. ;(
