To quote Amos from Olympus "it will be cheaper than $3000". Some may have heard it lesser. but yeah, it's not firm yet.

Less than $3000 ah? Then probably it's good that I missed the demo event... If not no determination to save $$$ to buy this lens.. Hahahaha

Anson heard "< $2500". Anyone heard lesser? lol

Definitely lesser than $2399 ;)

Wait for the pre order special prices was what I was told.

Personally I feel the built quality and IQ of the lens is fantastic, but there are a few points I would consider before getting it:

  • Do you use the 80-300mm focal length often enough to spend the $$$ ?
  • This is a rather big & heavier lens (compared to other m43 lenses, would you like to carry it in your bag?
  • For m43 users who is using Panny, this lens does not come with IS.

I reckon with the TC this is a lens great for sports and birding m43 photographers. However as the EM-1's still uses contrast focusing for C-AF, if Oly can allow the use of phrase focusing for their native m43 lens I have no doubt it would be most valuable to the photographers.

Any thoughts of the lens? :)

Thanks bros for the pictures posted. Think most probably i would be getting it when I go Osaka in Nov. Kitamura and Nainwa prioes is very tempting. ^^

some shots from the 40-150/2.8 on the EM1 today. Took the chance to show the effects of the vintage and partial color filters too

the reproduction of details and contrast of this lens wins me over.

a MFD of 0.7m helps immensely

all images are SOOC Jpeg and only cropped.

to Anson, my thoughts on this lens is... if you shoot this focal length, your only qn should be when available?
and if you don't shoot this focal length, try it and very likely you will want it haha.

Hopefully the final pricing can be closer or better than other markets in the region.

thanks

I hope SG oly will price the lens close to USA or Japan.... if you check out amazon, US price is ~SGD1900+, Japan is ~SGD1900 including the converter. ~SGD1700 w/o converter. local list price of $3000 be will too much. I rather buy from Jpn/US w/o warranty if the price differential is ~$1k.

Lets not jump into conclusion bah and wait for the real retail price.
pretty keen on lens but still need to see if my application fits.

7-14PRO, 12-40PRO, 40-150PRO.... dream setup haha!

Thanks to Olympus Singapore and the moderators and the participants, I had a great time meeting and learning from all the bros.

My personal opinion on the lens:

1. Heavy compared to other m43 lens but still manageable, built quality is top notch like the 12-40 pro, hood design is no horse run.
2. Optical performance seems like 150 mm is sharper than 40mm. May be the lens I was using s/n XXX60.
3. If u use that focal length, this is no brainer except the price. Hope it is price competitively.

Some shots to share

I question: Can the TC 1.4 use with other m43 lens or just for the 40-150 pro?

Cheers

from my understanding TC is only for 40-150 and 300. reason is due to the protruding glass element
