Dont have both cameras with me now but will try to borrow a 5D Mark III from a friend next week to do this comparison if got time.

Before trying out the 5D Mark III, i was quite happy with my 6D with the AF speed, though with some missed and blur shots. After trying out 5D III i now understand the key differences and benefits of the 5D III 61 points AF system. Super accurate and i get most shots spot on.

On paper, 6D is lighter in weight, but in real life, i can't feel much a difference though with the same lens attached.

Some great features i liked of the 5D III as compared to my 6D:
1) superb AF - more accurate not just for sports, but for kids running around. I also get sharper image than my 6D.
2) nice focusing screen that can switch to grid type, while 6D need to buy and change manually subject to scratches and dust
3) full 100% viewfinder for more accurate composition
4) better video qualities - much better than my 6D
5) dual card can use old CF in one slot and SD card for 2nd slot

Hmmm.... this is an interesting comparison. It would be useful if someone who owns both cameras could post comparison shots from both cameras.

That would be great! I eagerly wait in anticipation! :)

I'll buy another 5DMKII because I still love using ZE lenses!!

I have both 5D3 and 6D currently. Used 6D for 3 months and 5D3 for 2 wks so far. I am an event shooter was using 5D2 and 5D1 previously. Usually, 6D is on prime (50 or 85) and 5D3 on zoom (16-35 or 24-70). I use center point (and reframe) focusing 95% of the time. What i can say based on my usage is that 6D wins my previous 5D2 and 5D1 on every aspect (focusing accuracy, high ISO noise etc) and it is as good as 5D3. 6D center point focus is as good or better than 5D3 center point. I never miss focus on worst possible scenerio that i need to shoot (e.g. ISO 6400, 2.8, 1/40). The only thing I am not happy is that Pocket wizard TT1 and TT5 E-TTL is not working on 6D. PW is taking so long to update their FW. I can't comment on which aspect 5D3 is better than 6D yet as I need more time to explore them (hopefully i will).

For my personal general usage, I will use 6D over 5D3 anytime. :)

If it is due to the focusing screen, you may want to know that there is a company in Taiwan that produces replacement focusing screens for 5D3.

They even have instructions on how to change the screen (at your own risk).

I am using centre point of my 6D as well and comparing to 5D mark III, i get more consistent sharp shots from 5D III.

So sold my 6D and now having a 5D III which meet my needs better.

Looking at the photos taken with my previous 6D and my current 5D III, I have more keepers with 5D.

Both are great cams, just that 5D mark III has more synergy with my needs.

Have never doubt 5D3 so when once released had been eyeing since day one of launch. Now that
I have bought 5D3 absolutely no regrets even though 6D was milling around.

I thought 6D center AF has better sensitivity?

yes. A lot of people misunderstood the -3ev thing. it means you can get focus locked in darker env. BUT the speed and accurate is the same if not slower (comparing to 5Dmk3).

For me, 5D Mark III seems more accurate in AF, at centre AF. No blur shots so far, all shots are tack sharp as compared to some missed shots with 6D.

Never tried shooting at extreme dark condition, so in my daily use, 5D Mark III is more consistent.

not coming from a 5d3 user but a 6d user. Personally i think by comparing these 2 does not make any sense as 1stly their autofocus system isn't the same, center point imo 5d3 should be more consistent and accurate than 6d, 2ndly both cameras are different targeting at different types of users. Should compare it with D800, different brand same league. lol

This is a Canon thread thus comparing canon full frame.

Most users going for full frame will be eyeing on either 6D or 5D, thus this thread should help them make better decision.

Like the rest, i bought a 6D initially for a few key functions and thought they maybe better than 5D in those functions. The wifi and GPS functions are key selling point of 6D besides the lighter and smaller body for portability, but for more accurate shooting and other areas, 5D Mark III is a better full frame camera for those looking for better AF.

This comes with a costs of course - slightly bigger and heavier body, and more expensive.

According to the LensRental test on Canon bodies (August 2012), both the Canon 5D3 and 1DX fared best on AF. Here are the results (the lower the number the better):

Unfortunately, the 6D was not launched at the time of the test. Two things really stand out as a surprise... i) how poorly the 7D performed in this test and ii) how well the 650D performed.

Yup. Depends what u need and what u shoot, I think there are really lots of comparison between this 2 ever since its launched. I believe reviews doesnt speaks alot, it is when people really handles it then will truly know its flaws n pros. Reviews sometimes can be bias IMO cheers!

Totally agree. Was playing with my brother 6D i missed more shots using the center focus point than my 5D MIII.
