PocketWizard for Canon - FINALLY!

I found this on the Pocket Wizard website
............."A few Canon flashes, including the popular 580EX II, 580EX and 430EX, emit strong RF noise across the frequency range used by PocketWizard radios, impacting both the FCC 344MHz radios used in the American market and the CE 433MHz radios used in Europe and other international markets.

This interference significantly impedes the out-of-box range performance of the FlexTT5 Transceiver. We have found that the amount of interference varies from flash to flash so it is impossible to say precisely what the impact is. In our testing, we found some 580EX II's worked consistently on an FCC 344MHz FlexTT5 Transceiver in the upright position (Figure 1) at 100 feet (33 meters) or more. However, some flashes we tested were noisier and in the worst-case scenarios, without any intervening steps to improve range, consistent working range was reduced to 30 feet (10 meters). "

However, I couldnt find the 3x improvement that you mentioned ....
Could you direct us to that?
thanks

interestingly their testing found 430EX II almost equal in light output to 580EX II
hmmm...if we are using the FlexTT, maybe we should just get the 430EX II ?

It depends how the TT5 is placed. The most probable way is to move the TT5 as far away from the 580 EXII so that the frequency noise won't interfere.

Of course you may put 430 EXII on TT5 because it have a function call Force Master TL. :)

As stated in the Annoucement posted by phoakm, the CE and US (non-CE) versions of the PocketWizard MiniTT1s and FlexTT5s operate on different frequencies and are meant for use in different parts of the world.

Sorry for the late reply, the information was in the announcement from Rob Galbraith in the link posted above. Here it is again http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/content_page.asp?cid=7-10042-10208.

Some news from PW. Two new ControlTL?

plus 2 can trigger the flextt5
multimax can trigger the flextt5

flextt5 can trigger plus2 & multimax.

Can i check with owners of flex and mini, do you cover the bottom shoes of your flex5? it's rather sharp and might scratch your other equipments...

Nope. The material is made of polymer. It will worn out eventually. Anyway our hotshoes are metal. :)

not that. i kind of just chuck all my gear into a bag. the contact points are kind of scratching my other gears :)

the other problem i faced is that I am finding it hard to mount on my soft box :(

a question will it do grouping if yes how many group and it it able to high syn too

i cant read the whole posts so many:what:

That depends how you keep the items. I would normally use pouches to catorgeries and separate the items. This will be helpful to finds in situation I need.

I do have similar case on mounting the item on the strobe. It also applies the same situation for PW Plus IIs. What I do is to use pouches to hang the item on the knots of the lightstand or purchase a clamp with the cold mount and clamp on the stem of the lightstand. This clamp is available in Ruby.

There is another way is to fix the flex using its bottom threads and clamp onto the stem of the lightstand.

Yes bro, it does grouping for max 3. You may need 3 flexs to control the groups. You need to have a 580EXII on a flex on the camera's hotshoe to control the power of the individual flashguns on the flexs. Similar to using ST-E2.

There is another way to control the each group. Is to use the new PW products call Multicontroller. It can adjust the power level on each group for ETTL and Manual mode. The product will be launched on November.

Quote from PW

Zone Select: The FlexTT5 Transceiver has an A-B-C zone select switch to allow use with the slave groups found on Canon E-TTL II or manual flashes. Using these zones allows you to use the E-TTL II or Manual Power Control ratio controls found in the Canon system. Manual Power Control enables you to set the ratios through the Master Flash. See Manual Power Control. These zones can also be used with a MuiltiMAX thus allolwing you to pair a single MultiMAX radio on camera with FlexTT5's Transceivers on your remote flashes and utilize many of the MultiMAX's advance trigger functions.

So that means that Cathay will sell pocketwizards to local market now?

I have a lazy and a newbie question... sorry too long to read thru the entire thread.

what is different of using PW and canon wireless ETTL trigger? btw I am referring to Canon 7D

The Canon wireless trigger (7D, ST-E2, or 580EXII) uses an infrared signal, quite like a TV remote control, which works fine when used indoors and at close range.

The PWs use a radio signal and can trigger from behind walls, from greater distances, or outdoors where an infrared signal may fail because of sunlight.
