PocketWizard for Canon - FINALLY!

Hard part is actually getting the CE models *sigh*
Not sure if Pocket Wizard is ready with the CE model. They have just announced Mini and Flex for Canada recently.

At the moment, we can only order the FCC models from the States. And even that, the FlexTT5 is always out of stock as soon as it arrives in B&H or Adorama. Last month when I was in NYC, B&H only has MiniTT1 and I have to go to Adorama to get the FlexTT5. Lucky that both shops are within walking distance (30min.)

Latest news: ControlTL for Nikon will be available in the Fall 2009.

If you have read through the content. It will work with flex, mini & multimax. But multimax is only the on and off switch for the zones only.

It will be a money spending if you are getting the zone controller. You may need to get additional flex to play with zones, which money spending time for me.

Lets hope it will also allow us to change the power on the monolight when the product launch.

it seems that it doesnt work with PWIIs..not mentioned......sianz....

Latest product!!!!

Zone Controller
It looks to me like an after thought. The zone controller should be incorporate into Flex and mini functionality instead of coming out as a separate product.

Notice the flex/mini hot shoes are very flimsy. Not sure how long it will last especially with heavy flash such as 580EXII.

I had tried putting the 580 EX with the mini and flex on my camera. The strength of both the items are strong enough unless it is subjected to heavy knocking.

I think it can be made a bit better just like what Canon has done to their 430EX--> 430EXII flash guns. At least use metal on the hot shoe instead of plastic. After all, the Pocket Wizard products are not cheap...

An interesting video on using HSS.

hi my i know what is the issue with using CE or non CE frequency? :)
As stated in the Annoucement posted by phoakm, the CE and US (non-CE) versions of the PocketWizard MiniTT1s and FlexTT5s operate on different frequencies and are meant for use in different parts of the world. Obviously, since the US and CE versions operate on different frequencies, they are not interchangeable since they will not work together as phoakm pointed out.

US versions have been available since April this year and I have been waiting for the CE version because technically we should be using the CE version in Singapore. Although the US and CE versions are similar except for the difference in frequencies used, the US version suffers from restricted operating range because the Canon Speedlites (430EX, 580EX and 580EX II) produce RF noise which interferes with the US frequencies. The CE versions are expected to have an operating range approximately 3X longer than the US versions when used with those 3 common Canon Speedlites.

I have access to a few CE version PocketWizard MiniTT1s and FlexTT5s for sale. Anyone interested to get these units can look up my sale thread. Apologies to TS for "advertising" my sale thread, I treat 1 kopi per sale ;p Always good to meet up fellow PW/strobist enthusiasts anyway.

I found this on the Pocket Wizard website
............."A few Canon flashes, including the popular 580EX II, 580EX and 430EX, emit strong RF noise across the frequency range used by PocketWizard radios, impacting both the FCC 344MHz radios used in the American market and the CE 433MHz radios used in Europe and other international markets.

This interference significantly impedes the out-of-box range performance of the FlexTT5 Transceiver. We have found that the amount of interference varies from flash to flash so it is impossible to say precisely what the impact is. In our testing, we found some 580EX II's worked consistently on an FCC 344MHz FlexTT5 Transceiver in the upright position (Figure 1) at 100 feet (33 meters) or more. However, some flashes we tested were noisier and in the worst-case scenarios, without any intervening steps to improve range, consistent working range was reduced to 30 feet (10 meters). "

However, I couldnt find the 3x improvement that you mentioned ....
Could you direct us to that?
thanks

interestingly their testing found 430EX II almost equal in light output to 580EX II
hmmm...if we are using the FlexTT, maybe we should just get the 430EX II ?
