PocketWizard for Canon - FINALLY!

PW is cool :) can still remote shutter, self-portrait hidden cam hwahahh

Hi, I am looking at getting a set of Flex from US. I am thinking about getting 3 Flex (instead of 2 Flex and 1 Mini) since Mini is using proprietary battery instead of AA and it acts as only a transmitter. It is not as flexible as Flex. I just didn't know whether the size will be a factor since Flex obviously is bigger than Mini.

Anyone with the units can comment on this and other cons against using all Flex? thanks.

Flex indeed offer more advantage than Mini. It is an transceiver while Mini is a transmitter. The form factor is bigger. Actually it is the biggest of all the PWs. When it is on the horse shoe on the camera. It expands horizontally than vertical.

I would prefer to have one Mini. One thing is handy and can be used to trigger the rest of the PWs.

What you guys think of RadioPopper vs PocketWizard's product?

Thanks for the info. Looks like I have to take a look at the actual Flex before deciding. Mini definitely is designed to fit perfectly on the camera's hot shoe.

At the moment, B&H is out of stock on Flex but Mini is available. I will be in NYC at the end of the month if this Swine Flu thing does not get any worse and hopefully they will have the stock by then.

I think there is another thread talking about RadioPopper. I do not have a RadioPopper so can't compare. But I would like to see the performance of it. :)

It is originated from Germany. It is also sold in US.
Actually, I had placed order for Micro Mini.:)

I wonder hows the range of the Flex now with all the updates...has it improved dramatically? anyone can advise on that?

Cheers!

The firmware update does not provide improvement on the range. Here is the FAQ from Pocketwizard:

Q: How do I get the best range with my Canon 580EX, 580EX II or
430EX?

A: Canon Speedlite models 580EX and 580EX II, and especially the
430EX (not the 430EX II), emit RF interference that can
substantially reduce the effective operating range of many radio
slaves, including the FlexTT5. For these model flashes, please
utilize the mounting suggestions on Page 30 of the
Owner’s Manual to optimize range.

Using Canon’s Off Shoe Cord OC-E3 to separate the flash from the
FlexTT5 greatly improves range (4 – 5x). Adding a ferrite choke
on the cable near the flash increases range similarly. Placing the
FlexTT5 above the flash by 18” or more, and angled as pictured in
the manual on page 30, improves reception dramatically. All
three of these simple solutions combined provide the best
reception.

The Canon 430EX II and 550EX do not emit significant RF
interference. These flash models provide the best range
performance. The 420EX and 220EX are somewhere in-between
the “quiet” flashes and the “RF noisy” models and may perform
acceptably. All Speedlites can benefit from the suggested
techniques as they provide the best opportunity for optimizing your
lighting and your radio reception independently.

With the latest firmware, the functionality of the items had improved. However the range issue is still limited to a certain range, not much improvement. :)

alamak..thanks bros for the update..

so phoakm, does it hinder in anyway for you? r u limited by the range?
