A couple of points to note:
  1. Minimum post count concept will encourage more senseless posts which will indirectly increase the workload of the moderating team.
  2. Imposing such requirement will deter people from joining Clubsnap, especially those who would like to make use of Clubsnap's forum to sell their used items.
  3. Having a significant number of posts doesn't really tell much about one's integrity if he/she has yet to trade before.

1) As I said, if mods dereg those senseless posters, soon they will realised it is pointless and if it is pointless, no one will do it.

2) ?? it will only deter those who join Clubsnap only to use it for B&S. Is that a big loss to Clubsnap?

3) not really. I don't think it is coincidence that most of the complaint threads recently involves totally new members with close to zero post. Seriously, lets say if for example, Zaren offers to sell something, I would really trust that the condition is as what he says it is. I think there is a HUGE correlation between new members and bad traders. You almost NEVER hear something like this with senior members.

  1. Remember, there are always people that doesn't learn from lessons. Pointless? That's a subjective matter.
  2. I won't know if its a big loss to Clubsnap, but its always the more the merrier, isn't it?
  3. I had my fair share of pleasant experience with new members, with some of 'em having zero posts. And I had extremely bad experience with member that has been in Clubsnap for a considerable period with somewhat seemed to be higher post count and yet turned out to be a screwed buyer. Don't say things such as "NEVER". clearwater has mentioned his experience with one earlier in this thread. Go read it.

And to end off, I believe everyone here began off as a new member with 0 post count and certainly don't wish to be classified as the negative lot right from the start. Be fair to other members and all people engaging in Buy/Sell should take precautions.

i'm up with the minimum post count. how abt we make it compulsory that if we wanna use BNS, we have to surrender our information and details on a specific place on the forum, such that if we were to report certain fly kite incident, or unfair trade etc, we are still able to trace back to the actual person? then just needa have this mini up fame down fame thingy lor

"Senseless" is quite subjective, even posts counts can be misleading, a carefully thought-out and lengthy reply vs 100 "welcome to newbies" reply- how do the moderators draw the line? Keeping in mind that it is better not to overload their responsibilities.

Ultimately its your own choice on whether you intend to give a newbie the benefit of the doubt, or stick to trading with people with large posts counts. To each his own way of sieving out possible pranksters.

It takes only a bad trade or two before a particular name is flagged up (which I noticed is usually done in the consumers corner), hopefully we can keep ourselves updated on which names to avoid. Maybe we can explore if there is a standard way to post the complaints to allow for easy cross referencing.

actually you dont even need b&s ratings.

i can tell whether a person is a good seller or buyer from the number of posts they have contributed.

i would trust a senior member more than someone who has 1 post. simply cos i know the senior member has been around for some time and he will not want his reputation tarnished.

Just enounter a bad ethnic sellers from the Forums

This guy posting to selling 14-140mm Panasonic lens which stated it can be used by Olympus EP1 at a cheaper price. On the advert, he stated 7 days warranty, and he was working late that night when we do the transaction (around 1030pm). When i get back home and try, i couldnt focus using aperture mode for all range. I called him and he say is not his problem, this is panasonic problem and refuse to return my money even though i lhave tried to upload my cam body firmware as per suggested by him. He asked me to go upgrade the LENS firmware...i asked him how to download since i do not have any panasonic cam. He has the new panasonic cam but he refused to assist me on this, stating that this is not his problem and he can ignore me since he has got the money. After 2 hours of argument, and i threatened to report him to police and clubsnap, he then unwillingly agreed to return my money. I think i need to report this to the clubsnap to
prevent future clubsnap forumer been conned

The appeal of Clubsnap B&S is its simplicity in posting up WTS and WTB. Any further barriers to trade facilitation will be counter-productive. I will also agree with some of the forummers who suggested the rating system, but since Nightwolf mentioned that this system will be a strain to the backend resources, it will be better to deal with a less than perfect B&S system than a CS forum downtime. (How many of us suffer from withdrawal from the last server migration? :D )

Even with the rating system, there may be instances where people leave bad ratings simply because you didn't answer your PM for a day or for some trivial reason. Even the triviality of the reason for the bad rating is subjective.

Perhaps a list of safe traders can be compiled. I can help coordinate this list if the admin chooses to implement this system. Cheers.

CS has over 17,000 active members leh.The list will be endless...

I also second bringing back the rating system.
It benefits both honest buyers and sellers, and makes the forum a more pleasant place for trades.

Although the mods have mentioned that it produces a strain on the server resources (and it'll be interesting to hear from them how this occurs), I feel that the feedback corner will receive less "bad buyer/seller" threads in the long run due to due dilligence of buyers/sellers who will use the system well. Might be a better self-policing system in the long run!

And I'm sure CS has put better hardware into place after the last major downtime - that sure was scary.

Haha, yes. It's a tall order. But I don't have a better solution (without taking more hardware resources) :)

Maybe a good idea, maybe not.

I'm not that active but when I tried to sell something recently and couldn't log into my account for just 1 day, 1 guy who was enquiring on the item I wanted to sell left a very sarcastic remark. (name calling, etc ...). I didn't bother to reply him.

In this case, for 1 day not being able to answer my pm, I would get a horrible rating if CS had a rating system, what more the regulars. I think the standard disclaimer for CS for buy / sell works just fine. The forum is more meant for learning / exchanges, buy / sell and the problems that come with this part of the forum are best left to the individuals.

Haiz, I have a hard time selling my item...

some bring down the price very low. One even called me a cheat and a liar. :(

Same, experienced an sms to my phone asking for the price which I had stated in selling thread, followed by a low ball offer, 25% away from my asking price.

yeah..more and more of such pple..

posting fake WTS posts to bring down prices and claiming "other pple" selling lower..why still selling so high..

gets very nasty when there are high bids and start to accuse pple of going back on the deal.

Mine was dealing with my flash. Give a bit discount. But my bad was, the buyer smsed me in the wee hour so I reply with short words which I think I was rude in sms ethics. But then the buyer said he/she is interested so we set a date. But the Buyer wants it at 11am.

I was quite hesitant since my workplace has a stocktake run. But I thought I could get a time-off just to deal wit this thing. So I agreed. The next day, Unfortunately it was very busy so I could only see that I can meet the buyer at 12. So I smsed and ask is it convenient to change at 12. No Reply. Then Time nearing to 11. I was quite worried since the buyer never reply. So I ask if he/she wants to deal or not coz it seems like it doesnt and I dun wanna waster trip and my time-off. No Reply. 11am came, I remember the buyer gave the nick in this forum so I checked. No Such person(Or maybe new member? thats why cannot check?). Anger came and I smsed saying the buyer a fluke coz no such member and deal if off. Then the buyer reply said if I already had a higher bidder just say so. I said I honor 1st deal and there IS another buyer but I told that guy that I had a buyer already. The the buyer start to turn the story around saying I am a cheat and a liar and never trusted me at all. So I said, if want to cancel deal just say so, no need to let people waste time. And the buyer still spouting nonesense that I am a rich snob who tried to cheat people. I reply again by saying IF I'm rich, I wont be selling my items. After that the buyer said he/she will complain about me in CS. I said go ahead. Till today, no see lei.

I have suggested this before, registration is the key to solve most problems. Change the rule, no nicks, register your full name with a proper email address. To advertise at BnS, pay annual subscription, otherwise cannot advertise. We like to insist on transparency with our government, but most prefer to hide behind 'nicks', I don't see why unless one has something to hide. Finally, if CS thinks our 'photography community' is matured enough, do something so that this forum does not attract those who are here only for profiteering thru whatever means.
