Totally cute! :D

And hey, she holds the DSLR properly.. much better than some grown-ups who hold them in.. totally weird ways.

Hi maverickh..

Paiseh.. :embrass:.. I've yet to own a Pentax camera.. but the K-7 is about to change all this..;)

Reason why I commented about your pic is because I'm trying to find a suitable lens to start with. Some info online says that firing on-board flash at 16mm when using 16-50 / 16-45 does cast shadow even without hood.

I think I might go for the 16-45 or maybe start with kit lens..:)

Nice pics all round!

I think we can safely assume that all the wide angle zooms will face this problem. Even if they don't the built-in flash won't be able to illuminate the FOV evenly. So don't let that limit your lens choice!

My FA 31mm is also used for food shots ... and it's a very capable 1 at doing that! ;) ... you are making me really hungry at this hour!

Will look through all 60+ pixs later. More partial to flowers myself :D

fw, those are great macro shots. could you share some tips on how to take such photos? if a flash wasn't used then did you increase ISO or use a tripod?

Thanks Darren.

Yes, I used 540 flash on body. Normally I'd point the flash at the same level as the flies (or other small bugs) so to avoid shadows under or behind their bodies. Aperture set to F8 to F11, sometimes even F16. Get as close as I can, and make sure the first shot is right on, otherwise the flash would scare the bugs away :)

My tricks to shoot small bugs are:

1. focus to the right point
2. expose properly, avoid under or over exposed pics as much as you can
3. avoid or minimum shadows
4. enough DOF (smaller aperture)
5. for small bugs, get as close as possible (set the lens to minimum focus distance, move the camera back and forth to focus)
6. try to get it right on the first shot
7. no tripod, but monopod might help
8. be ready to sweat

Here are couple more:
