Pictures from Nex-5N

How come u couldn't stay for shakira's concert yet u were around for shaggy's? Shakira was before qualifying, shaggy was after.

Haha! U got me, I was told (and I didn't check) she's after shaggy, anyhow, it was a good performance from Shaggy too. Glad to have made some shots there.

nice pix Bro WongLP =)

Thanks Bro Albert!

The pictured adapter stated Nikon G. Does it mean that G lenses' apertures can be manupulated with this adapter? And it's so much cheaper than the one at Chiif. Is there any quality difference between this and the *bones adapters? Thanks.

Thanks Bro Anthony! I'm overseas now and don't have the adapter with the lens combi, shall do it on Sat when I'm home. It's big, I brought it as I that's the longest focal length and possibly sharpest as well.

The adapter stated 'G' on the adapter, however, afaik, nikon G lenses has no aperture ring, so can't change aperture setting, and this adapter does not allow any change in aperture. There's another type from Rayqual which has apertures within adapter, very "experimental" as mentioned on the website. My limited knowledge about G lenses. So in that aspect, for most ebay 'F/G' I think is the same. If it's a D lens, which has aperture, then this adapter is ok.

A typical one from ebay is as such, it's stated 'G' but can't change aperture, to be sure, I will pop a question to the seller:

Metabones is much more well made especially on the mount, i think it's different material from the body. I have the Contax G - m43 which is the most well made adapter i own. mostly the other adapters are one single piece i think it's brass. Although I mainly use the cheapest ones, i do make sure i hold on lens front most of the time to alleviate strain on the camera mount. Hope that helps.

Poisonous stuff Bro Wonglp :)

I purchased this similar adaptor from ebay but still not here yet (about 2 weeks ago)

Cant wait to use my nikon lenses esp the 20mm AIS that I like a lot

Thanks Bro Rasdeep! That's a nice lens. Post some pics when you get it!

Thanks Wonglp,

I picked up my NEX 5ND today from MScolor with Divipower Nikon to NEX adapter (SGD 80). After getting acquainted with the camera and taking some jpec shots with the 18-55 kit lens, I am completely blown away by the picture quality. I will post some shots when I can shoot raw and learn Capture 1 as my CS5 cannot process Sony's raw now.

Question: To use an adapted lens on NEX, is there any special setting that I must do. I am still reading the manual and so far cannot find anything. Do I just set the shooting mode to MF? Thanks.

Glad you like the IQ, it's really good especially hi iso! Are your nikkor lenses G? There's a setting in "Setup" - "release w/o lens", set to enable, & I set to "A" mode and the cam does the exposure. The neat thing is the once u mount MF lenses, the bottom button becomes magnify button, i thought this is quite useful. U might find these useful too:
- use touchscreen to magnify the spot, useful for off centre shots
- peaking function, you can set different colors, personally i use red for portraits seems to work best for me.
- can set LCD screen brightness to "sunny weather" if u shoot outdoor, something that i always struggle with the LCD on Pen. It increases the brightness + contrast to help focusing better, but your picture playback would also be much more contrasty and not reflect true picture.
Overall, the 5N is very nifty tool for MF just using the LCD. Happy shooting and look forward to your posts!

Have not received so I am not sure how it works so maybe bro wonglp can answer this.. My guess is it allow some kind of aperture control through the "lock and open" ring as state from the page "With Lock / Open Aperture Control Ring to set the designated aperture." except I wont be able to tell the exact aperture so it will be a guessing game. For instance based on Lock and Open considering 100%, if my aperture is from f2.8 to f22 so roughly in the middle should be between f8 and f11.

Nevertheless, even if stuck at wide open, it is still good enough for me. Anything else is just bonus

its quite easy to judge the aperture using such adapters. Just open ur aperture fully, note the shutter speed, then u can easily judge the aperture size when u slowly close the aperture and checking the shutter speed (ie shutter speed slowed by half = 1 stop aperture).

Got it, thanks. Really exciting to try out both my Ais 28f2.8 and 50f1.2. My 105f2.5 is not with me but I have a Pentax M 200f4 that weighs only 400gm and also very small. Cheers.

Does Divipower adapter allows you to control aperture?

1 stop 1/2 shutter speed so 3 stops is 1/2 of 1/2 of 1/2 = 1/8 of shutter speed which gets complicated after a while and unless i have splenty of time..

That is too much calculations to remember.. LOL

Nope. All my lenses are manual focus, so I need just a simple one. I shud have bought an EOS to Nex as I have all the various adapters for EOS when I was using Canon. For example, I can convert all my legacy lenses to EOS mount by using my various existing adapters, like Nikon F to EOS, Pentax K to EOS, OM to EOS, Contax CY to EOS, M42 to EOS. Each of these adapters can be bought for SGD 10-15. Then I will need on one EOS to NEX mount to use all my lenses. So, going to pick up an EOS to NEX mount today. You can only do this if all your legacy lenses have aperture rings.

Very soon, Conurus, will come out with an EOS to NEX mount that will enable NEX bodies to dial in apertures of all EF and EF-S lenses. This will be very interesting to all Canon users who need 1 or more bodies for back-up or even be their main cameras. I have been shooting the whole morning with my Nikon 50f1.2 ais at various apertures from f1.2 to f2 and I am very impressed with the way NEX handles manual focusing lenses, absolutely astounding. I will post my photos later when I can offload them from the camera.

My first trial shoot with NEX 5N. All were shot in jpec in 16.9 aspect ratio which I didn't like and had to do some cropping in CS% photoshop and minor adjustment.

Fully agreed, I am now using legacy lenses fully on Nex, seldom on my Pen.

Nice pics, the 50/1.2 is sharp wide open! My Minolta 58/1.2 is dreamy.

The 105 is a nice lens isn't it?! I like the white 5N! The first 2 lenses combi is a little over, careful how you hold it..The last one is sweet..Post some pics of all pls;)

Quick question. I cant shoot the black and white or the other fancy styles mode when I have a manual lens attached right? can some one try and advise?

105 is nice indeed but little too sharp for portrait...
i should turn sharpness down one to two notches and try again..

has a dreamy 35mm lens that i will try later but now too many lenses to play with..

possible, depending on your creative mode, some picture effects may not be enabled... i have the two mapped to my custom setting so i can see which mode affects the picture effects. Also, set it to Aperture mode
