Pictures from LX3 for technical discussion - part II

One of my closeup shots using manual focus as subject was too small. Actually the strand of hair might not be significant enough to bring an impact, perhaps?

f2.8, 1/30, ISO200 manaul focus handheld with camera resting on table.

Light wooden colour as base because was worried white may overexpose shot

Pls comment what needs improvment.

I'm a newbie too.
Generally i try to keep ISO to 400 or less if i can help it.
For this pix, you can slow down the shutter a little to get lower ISO.
As it's an outdoor shot with enough lighting and your subject is not fast moving, you'll still be able to get a sharp picture.

Hi bro, we normally try to use as low an ISO as possible for our pictures as higher ISO will introduce more noise to the pictures. For daytime shooting, ISO 100 to 400 should be more than enough. Try not to use ISO 800 or above unless you absolutely have no choice. The LX3 with its fast F2.0 lens should be able to give u a fast enough shutter speed for most situations except very dark places or late at night. What mode did you use to take these pictures?

Noticed that there hasn't been any adventurous ppl to attempt fireworks with LX3.
No doubt it's difficult with self timer and lack of bulb mode, but it's all about challenge

After gaining experience at the yishun fireworks few months back, i roughly know what to expect this shoot. Probably the only point n shoot dude with tripod among the DSLR crowd lolx

thanks kfc! ...i find it pretty hard taking nite pix without having noises...gotta find the right settings...will try post up some of pix...hopefully to get some help from the experts here.

ISO is kept low for noise free, and for longer shutter speed to capture the trails.

what about exposure controls when it comes to night shots?

my less than perfect sets of photos...hundreds more taken not worth showing..hehe..

looking at ur exif..
i guess a slower shutter speed and higher iso may "brighten" the image..

however..
u might risk blurred image and noise..

hope i am right..

i am no expert and i am trying to take shots of my daughter at orchard during xmas lighting..
hope to do it soon..

Change your metering to spot or centre weight metering and point at the main subject which u want to be exposed properly. Press AE-L to lock down the exposure setting and recompose the picture. (For ur case, u will need a tripod to use lower shutter speed)

Multi metering mode will take into considerations everything in the frame and try to set the exposure to capture everything in the best exposure. Thus it will consider the LIGHTS in your picture resulting in the underexposed picture.

you might want to try exposure compensation feature if is too bright or too dark.

The purpose is to overwrite the camera exposure.

Hi guys, I am thinking of getting a LX3 coming year end. Can everyone advise whether this camera can perform during winter time? I'm thinking of bringing it along with me to Korea next Feb (temperature around -1 to -7). This is my first time to winter place, anybody have any advise for me? I will like to take pics during skiing as well.

Just last week I was back from Korea. I had decided to bring just my LX3 as it was a family tour and I would be crucified if I spent too much time/effort hunting down scenes! Average temperature then was hovering at -3deg, which dropped further as we ventured up the mountains.

The LX3 continues to work like a charm, with no problems whatsoever. Only advise is you need to bring extra batteries and be wary of condensation. I have yet to complete sorting out all my pictures, here are some of them to show it survived in the cold!

it worked well for me in -10-15 below zero C a few weeks back..... just bring one extra battery if you are shooting alot of video too

Thanks for all your replies... look like i shouldnt have any problems with LX3.

How to prevent condensation? Do i need to always keep the cam with a heat pack? And only take out when usage and put it back with the heat pack after usage.
