Pictures from LX3 for technical discussion - part II

Thanks for all your replies... look like i shouldnt have any problems with LX3.

How to prevent condensation? Do i need to always keep the cam with a heat pack? And only take out when usage and put it back with the heat pack after usage.

actually don't need to put heat pad with the cam, just take out use, then put back into the cam case can already.

Thanks for the advise bros. looks like there's no worries then

how do i reduce the washed out sky look..it was a extremely bright afternoon in perth...reduced the exposure but it was really still very bright... anyone can share to advise/tips? :dunno:

The shots were taken at the largest aperture and fastest shutter speed.

To further reduce the exposure, you could choose a smaller aperture in AV or M mode, eg. f2.8, f4, while keeping the same shutter speed.

aah...I see. I knew I missed out something. thanks! will try that when have a chance!

You could have used an ND or polarizer if you wanted to keep the aperture at the widest setting ie f2. Looking at the pictures you took it would not have made too much difference if you had stopped your aperture to F5.6. You can play with 3 settings to get the effect you want F stop, shutter speed and ISO speed.

Yeah, get a polariser filter.

hmmm thanks...havent really mastered the "M" mode...always struggle to keep a good exposure while adjusting the F stop & shutter speed..hmmm..missed out to toggle the ISO..another point noted! :embrass:

how about these 2 similar pix...
P1010656.jpg

f2.2 s:1/2000 exp:-0.3 iso 80
the building against the sky looks more natural but its kinda dark..unlike the actual weather

P1010657.jpg

f2.2 s:1/640 exp:+1 iso80
the sky looks PSed but it captured the actual bright weather

anyways..i am just reviewing back my pix..and criticising the bad ones...just trying to understand what went wrong or how to make it better with the help of the gurus here! thank you again all for teaching! keep the comments coming! very much appreciated

hey.. nice pics there.. where is the place? the first pic abit underexpose i think.. the 2nd pic have a better exposure and composition from the angle..
im not a pro. but just my perspective n 1 cent worth. LX3 rox... :)

You dont need to set the cam to manual. Use aperture priority. You set the f-stop and the cam will select the shutter speed. Shooting into light (Sky) increase exposure by 2 stops (EV +/-) side loght increase by 1 stop (as a starting point). You can preset your camera whatever ISO or a range of ISO (for ex up to ISO 200).

1 stop = +1 or +1/3?

On a bright sunny day, your aperture is @f/2??
Read up on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depth_of_field

yeah...still learning.. :) point noted that reducing the aperture may help the washed out look... but how does DOF help prevent overexposure? maybe i missing out something...:embrass: havent read fully the link tho' thanks!..another link into my favourite!
