wah reli thumbprint ant le.. but it quite huge.. photo 1:1 no crop.. next time must find other thumbprint.Strictly speaking, no. It depends on your intent. If u want a classic 'documentary' shot, then yes, it needs to be sharp.
If u want it to 'artistic' and u want to creatively make use of ambient light, coloured background and using large apertures to throw the bg out of focus (something like what Nadav Bagim had done in his fascinating 'wonderland' series), then the sky's the limits.
It shouldnt be just about compound eyes, head shots or something u find in nat geo. But it has to tell a story.
The shot of the JS is nice.
but dunno leh.. if shoot macro then all the shoot dreamy defeat the purpose ? right but it cool to once in a while to misfocus.. haha .. ya the js was nice and dreamy i myself also like it

To me, the whole purpose of macro is to bring out the beauty of this little insect which is not visible to our normal life and we dun usually particularly get to see in details unless we bring out in that huge size from our macro magnification. I do appreciate the beauty of tack sharp JS. I dun know how to apprieciate the JS above. still I will not disagree with donald on JS above and that certain oof are beautiful.. I am for the tack sharp and dof insects and critters.
