REFER TO PG 26 for Part 1.

PART 2:

When darken my room and turn on the light, the way the light shone made me happy. It went direct at the middle which is align with the lens.

So here is the pic taken w/o macro to show u the light fall. The light was bright enough for my AF macro lens to stop hunting and Focus on target.

and here is some macro.

In case if u dun have velcro, stationary shop sometimes sells those big rubber band(for tying big items). maybe can use that for modification.

so thats it for my setup. If u guys has Idea please input in here. maybe can modified even more.
I'm also think of using those long led light and velcro it around the lens. But that would be next time.

Lastly, Macro will never be complete w/o research. XD

I'm using Samsung Dxenon 100mm Macro. The lens thread is 49mm which is not compatible Raynox Clip-on(52mm). So I get myself step-up ring 49-52mm. Now can clip-on la. Actually the Raynox is not mine. I borrow from my best fren. haha. Last time go n sell n now feel wasted. so will be buying again. :bsmilie:

I dont know why this thread becomes more of a Pentax Macro Tech Discussion, but I like it. haha.

So wanna share this Led Light I found while sending my Film for processing at Miaow Liaan Bukit Batok Central Blk 154 i think. beside the CHEERS shop, I saw a small trading shop selling led light/maglight etc. Then saw this big guy and the uncle tested it. Looks like it has a potential to be my Night Macro Set-up. So I bought it at $10. (Just so if u guys interested, the uncle only has a few left).

For night Macro, I always uses my Ring Light which I bought for 60+ bucks which can be mounted at the front. But time brings along evolution, the ring light has become a wall for me to keep testing newer techniques. But it still a great Night Macro partner if u are alright with the wires and the front mounting.

Here is the led light pic.

The light has 24+3 LED. The middle consist of 24 while at the front there is 3 LED light. one button to change between these two light functions. But I'm not impressed by the 3 LED light which is Ok when tested but my Camera still hunts(AF). So the 24 LED is the way for me. More cofusing is how to mount it on my lens to make its a middle light source for it. I look around my messy room and round-up a Scissor,Double-Sided Tape & velcro Male/Female which I was abt to use it for my DIY soft box(for external flash) for macro which is in 70% completion. Lets sacrfice the Velcro la for this. Can get somemore next time.

Looking at the Picture, u can judge how I did it. (Taping the velcro piece by piece at 4 sides of the light). so here is my Set-up

i have something similar. red colour one bought from home-fix.

its bright enough for illuminating insects at night but my only beef with it is that i have to find a good way to attach it. tried hot glue and some DIY bracket to attach to a 2-armed flash holder... it fell off halfway into the mud :bsmilie:

still remember that oceanpriest had to help me retrieve it ;p

end up we took turns to hand-hold it while the other person shoots the subject :bsmilie:

i have a ring-flash on order ;) waiting for it to arrive.

Yeah man, the Ring Flash from Pentax is quite good even for potraiture. Pentriot Anime Cosplay shot taken with that.

Metz also has ringflash but I think manual function. Someone selling at B&S that day for 300+

i ordered the metz one :) its a slave flash that uses the pop-up flash to trigger so it supports all the major flash systems, including P-TTL.

flash, i don't dare to buy 2nd hand... got bad experience before. ended up with a bad copy that i ended up throwing away. unlike lens, its harder to check for functionality and we never know how intensively the flash tubes had been used

unless the problem is really obvious, u won't know that its not firing off reliably until u've actually used it quite a bit, which was what happened to the one i got... even Kelvin advised me not to service it cos i can probably top up a bit and buy a new copy with warranty.

the pentax one is WAY out of budget for me. its actually in stock at one of the shops last i checked. main selling point is the bayonet adaptor that allows u to mount a D-FA lens from the bayonet mount instead of the filter ring cos its not an IF lens.

but i find it hard to part with that kinda money just for that

Ok, I'll await for ur Metz and see how it goes. Coz I'm looking for Ring Flash but the price on the Pentax Ring Flash really makes me sweat. lol.

Thats true for 2nd Hand Flash. its more of a problem coz u dunno how much the flash has been used. Some sellers are honest while some are not. :sticktong

K-5+Dxenon 100mm w/o raynox(accidentally mentioned Raynox in flickr). built-in flash w/ 2 diffuser

And no more stains! woohoo. no need cloning. if they were, it would probably at the butt of this insect.

Talking about ring flash. Anyone tried macro ring LED or macro ring adapter? Are they good enough?

dunno how true but i read a comment in mass sale before... one guy bought it the LED ring light and found its not bright enough for insect macro. :dunno:

the 2nd one, i find it quite cumbersome  must mount hot-shot flash, then can attach the ring reflector. the attachment i think is done with straps. :what:

with this, i think u'll get flat lighting as there's no way to vary the direction of the light?

the more ex ring flash can adjust the output on the left or right tubes, or the reflectors so u can still have some directional lighting. more flexible.

I use similar LED light also, but this one can bounce.

I think this led+laser+uv not bad also, can shoot fluorescent scorpion with UV light.

Last time my first Night Macro outing, my Sifu suggested to use the same energizer light. But I didnt get it. Just wanted to try something else. Though I knw its a good thing for Night Macro.

Hmmm, the Ebay ones kinda interesting. Need a willing tester for this. if its good, can keep it as part of our arsenal.

I'm using the Ring Light for Night Macro previously, Actually its more for Video Purposed u know u seen those ppl singing and bright ring thing reflecting on their shades? this is the one. Still need an external Flash for this.

What I use is Ring Light mounted on the front, the wires and the battery source I hang it around. then I use External Flash w/ Diffuser.

Here is the pic using this method:

It is nice. But as u can see my framing is from the low aiming top. Thus u cant see the shadow at all. But this does give harsh shadow

Like this

So it means, I need a better diffuser to minimized its shadow. Currently DIY-ing one but I'm getting confused. lol. 70% in the making.

shooting macro, ring flash is very powderful. at f32 iso 50, shooting at night also can shoot like bright day light. but too powderful causing some details wash out.... :nono:

Guys need info. Wonder if I can find those Flash mount rail that can mount the external flash near to the lens on the right or left (one side only) or maybe top but nearer. I starting to think my diffuser for external flash would be better like that. To minimized/kill the shadow.

would it help if the ring flash can adjust flash power?

yup but ring flash, at least the one i have, has only minimum adjustment. mine only got max and min adjustment. i am thinking of how to diffuse the light. if diffusion can be achieved the ring flash is perfect.
