This one looks really cool. But I think it'd look even better if you crop away the right black portion, probably the extreme top left tree as well

Some guy in CS sub-forum for IR has the same opinion. Here is the cropped version.

Just bought my first DSLR last week, and it is a White K-x. Very satisfy with it so far. Was very busy and didn't have a chance go out shoot much photos. Here are 2 photo, 1 is outside and 1 inside to add some taste of Pentax, both on DAL 18-55 ^^ :)

I just started DSLR a couple of months, still very much in the dark, would appreciate if senior members can help me out with this particular shot. Hopefully I post in the correct section.

Mist.jpg

Camera:K-x
Focal Length: 55mm
Lens:18-55 kit lens
Aperture:f/16
Speed: 1/10th sec
ISO:200

Just forget about the composition of the image. This picture was taken at around 7am just as the sun is about to rise, there is a nice early morning mist on the ground near the trees. Eye view, the mist is quite thick, I'm not able to capture what my eyes see. How do I capture the mist? The picture is taken hand held, no tripod at the point of capture.

Thanks for any tips and advice on this picture.

Wow! You are really still like a statue to have all that happen on your jeans :D

Nice shot.
Can you share how you mount the flash? Is it on camera or off using a flash bracket (or separate mount?)
How close does the A200 focus BTW?

Thx

A50/1.7 reverse mounted. f8

Trying out reversed lenses for more magnification, and realized that I have much to learn and tryout. Trying to hold a flash on one hand and a MF lens on the other and swaying back and forth to get focus while the flash hand needs still to flip the aperture lever under the recent weather is a no go (phew... its as complicated as it sounds)

I really need to DIY or buy a flash bracket.

I'm not that expert to explain but I think UV filter plays a part if u have one in front of the lens. Better take them out i think.

Hmm, as I know some uses large aperture. but dunno la. When I look at ur pic, I also think what if Bulb shutter can help or not. Havent tried it also. This all meant for experimenting. Thats why its a DSLR :bsmilie:

The flash was mounted on the hotshoe of the camera but with a self made diffuser. I am trying again as other self made diffuers, over and over again. still much to experiment and find one that will lighten the shadows beneath the insects.

The pic was cropped about 20 percent off and camera mounted on monopod. A200 is difficult to handhold for me. I had a PKA tube attached. Minimum focus distance is about 11 inches for this macro lens which is a good distance for insects.

Thx

Reverse lens, there is one focus point in sharp focus. Yup, got to move your body to and fro and that is tough.:bsmilie: Your black blackground shows no ambient light captured, probably a faster shutter speed and the flash lights that lights up the hopper's body:)

try with a slower shutter speed. Some of my shots, I tried 1/25 secs with sr on.

Thanks for the tips and the info on your spider shot.
I'll go for a slower shutter speed next round. I was thinking of using another flash to light up the bkgnd (but I just sold one of my flash and will need to wait for the new one to arrive)
The PKA tube does look more and more appealing (provided I can find one).

I think is because you use f16. Try using a wide aperture and faster speed. The mist is almost white in color, try not to cover the bright sky too much. When you have a darker background, the contrast will be there.
Good luck ;)

Thanks ricsal. It's kinda weird. The 1st I took in my room with neon light turns on. The 2nd took @ 2pm, alot of sun. However, the result turn out the on in the room more crisp, the 2nd pic kinda blurred...

Can't remember what I adjust ><

Any hints?

Hello fellow pentaxians.
I have a difficulty in focusing the stigma of a flower.
Am using K-x with kit lens, set to macro, 40mm, f7.1, 1/125, AF-center, center weighted and when i tried to focus on the whole flower, the stigma part was blur.
How do i get the whole flower to be clear?
Appreciate any help rendered.

Remember 3 weeks ago I post the question of how to shoot a flower with long stigmas?
Well, this time, I tried with the DA 55-200mm at f5.6 and the result is not great, but good enough for me to sort of understand how to balance between distance and aperture.
Should stop down even more to capture the petals but the wind was swaying the flower, so i need a wider aperture... sigh.

The longer the focal range the thinner DOF . best bet would be to use a UWA or even a fisheye which have a great DOF also try shooting from further away , although this may not give the bokeh of shooting closer...

Okay, will try your method too.
I know I need to do experiments. But, off the record, how wide and how far away from the subject are you recommending?

Thanks for the tips.

Well 2m + would be good but then you would lose the OOF background. best if you like 4m then your lens is focused to infinity then the whole plant + background would be sharp , but then the picture would look very different...

Only way i can think of now is to focus stack...
take a few pics with different focus points then stitch them together , but im too lazy for that

Just got myself the DA 15mm yesterday from a fellow pentaxian.

Took a few test shots this evening. What can I say? I really like the size, weight, FOV and the resolution.
