hi pinhole, ur in cam hdr is done by using the art filter?

I'd like to use this post to encourage Pentaxians, esp those with K-x, to try using the B&W function, and the digital filters in the camera.

For an entry level camera, there are so many customizations available even for each filter itself! It is simple to use, and the instant preview lets you visualize the effect.

Here is a portrait of my daughter i took, using only the in-camera functions.
The setup :
1) Shoot in RAW
2) Custom Image: BW -> this is accessible from Menu->Custom Image
3) Filter effect : Yellow
4) Sharpness : -1
5) After shooting, use the in-camera RAW conversion to convert to JPG.
6) Resize to 0.3MP in camera.

Everything done in-camera, no external image editing required.

You can do this directly in JPG setting but, somehow after many test shots, the RAW version always end up sharper with more detail.

Nice pic of your daughter there bro! Ya the KX is a really fun camera with all the customization options and filters! I for one, play with the filters alot. Although Photoshop can do these effects too, it is always fun to be able to instantly turn your pics into something interesting and fun with the filters.

And nice meeting you at the MRT station just now.:)

thks bro, am still learning though :) using ISO 800 imho the noise control is still acceptable (accept for one pic where i increase the exposure via pp and theres alot of noise). If you can set a correct settings for shooting in low light, I think I would rate the K-7 at least a 7.5/10 for low light shooting without flash.

I didn't know 200mm is long enough for birds. I have 200mm, except bird park where in Singapore can I shoot bird with 200mm?

It isn't long enough, almost all the shots were cropped quite significantly. However, with a lens like the Tamron 70-200mm that's razor sharp by f/4 and 14.6MP on the K20D, I can afford to crop and retain enough resolution for web and small prints. The most heavily-cropped photo is about 3MP. I simply don't shoot birds and wildlife enough to justify the cost of a long, fast, sharp lens like the DA*300mm or F*300mm or even longer glass.

Too bad Kenko tele conversion 1.4x and 2x is not available for Pentax mount. But I am very tempted to get the 1.4x for my 70-200 f4 to try. f5.6 is still ok for day time, plus AF still works.

Kenko teleconverters for Pentax K-mount? Sure, they exist, I have the 1.5x teleplus MC. In fact there're a few versions, and I think only one works with SDM (mine refuses to AF with SDM lenses, I think I've figured out which pin to remove to make it AF with the screw drive, but haven't taken the time to do it yet).

AFAIK, there're also a few versions of the Kenko 1.4x and 2x for Pentax mount

Very nice model shots kesha, long time never see you you posting here.
Your picture is getting better & better.

Good birding shots darren, very sharp i think you had made a right choice by
picking up this lens.

Thanks! Right now the front part of the lens is starting to get loose and wiggle, just like my Tamron 17-50. Wonder why Tamron zoom lenses always have this problem... :bsmilie:

My bad, I mean the new one 300 DG Pro.

I think for the pins you need to tape it right? I saw this workaround in the web.

Anyway I am picking up the 1.4x Teleplus Pro 300 DG from DD electronics later. They are very cheap for the Canon mount. Now having promotion at only $147, all the shops I asked yesterday selling about $250.

Oh yah, not the Pro 300 series... is it better than the older models?

Don't quite like the idea of taping the pins, since tape can come off over time and leave sticky residue. The teleconverter is actually quite easy to take apart and re-assemble, the lens assembly is mounted together as one solid piece so it's quite safe. Just takes a bit of time and patience working with all those tiny springs and pins... ;(
