Panoramic view of the Grand Canyon from Mather Point along the South Rim, such an awesome place.

Darren, I like this photo, but I feel it will be nicer if you have foreground to frame the shot. But that's just my opinion.

Thanks for your comment. Actually the snowy parts on the right and left are in the foreground so I did use the foreground for framing. Did you mean that you would like to see the snowy parts join up at the bottom of the pano? I can't really remember but I think they go very far down before joining.

i think he means an anchor element. ;)

anyhow, south rim is not so easy to find such things, from photos i have seen.

tabako - you might want to refer to ej peiker (naturescapes) south rim section here:
http://www.ejphoto.com/grand_canyon_page.htm

this particular one seems to show a similar vantage point from darren:

grand canyon main problem is to showcase the depth, it cannot be seen clearly here due to limited size but i think the shadows will be more than sufficient to help with that. the only real quibble i have here is wrt the blowouts - you used gnd and didn't push it down enough?

pssttt... america got so many nice national parks, please visit monument valley

Oh right, well if I were to go find an anchor element I'd fall off the edge and plunge into the canyon :bsmilie: Actually I don't have GND.. the whole sky was flat, white and boring so I cheated in PP by adding a GND filter in LR and some blue color. ;)

The rest of the photos from South Rim are here: http://darrenleow.zenfolio.com/p767643945/h3d752ae0#h3d752ae0

Will be checking out more national parks here of course, but not many photog kakis here who are willing to spend weekends and breaks in nature. :(

yes, i know what you mean - i only found khakis after first year..

US is not as well connected as UK via train? i am not sure, have never been there tbh..

but if you have a car, well, if you do, it is common in some places..... if i were you, i'd just go around driving myself and sleeping overnight inside the car whenever i had time. ;p

i like #11 in your gallery. that lighting in #16 in the distance is fabulous, do you have anything closer up?

I am free from 20-28 March and no plans just yet. We can plan something! ;)

Took a while before I figured out what it is. :bsmilie: I think my table lamp is lowering the contrast I get from my monitor.

Oh shucks... staggered hols timing work against us here. My Spring break is 8-13 March. Well, I might visit Chicago one day, or you might visit Orlando.... But Florida landscape is pretty limited.

My best model on that day. :)

Norbert, Titus & co? :dunno:

The cities are connected via train and bus but getting to the ulu nature places isn't easy without a car, and renting one on my own is expensive and not really safe both driving long distances and sleeping in the car by the roadside :bsmilie:

Here's one slightly closer around the time of #16 I think. Didn't shoot with the 70-200 then though..

I think it's U of C's fault since we're running a quarter system here rather than semester. My friend was thinking of planning an epic road trip down to Miami FL over the spring break.

Don't stop just at Miami, make sure you take the chance to go all the way down to Key West. The drive from island to island along Highway 1 should be spectacular. Can jio me if you do any shooting around Orlando.:heart::heart:

Join an invite by Ishou 80 and Iphoto, outing at Lower Pierce Reservoir today.

My contribution for the day.
