My good brother divinemoment.
You hit the nail on the head again when you talk about the difficulty of this scene.
I believe everyone of us had the sane amount of trouble here.
But it really gladens me to see that our thread has taken a slight turn with you leading the way, in that we are now putting up photos of situations where we experience technical difficulties in achieving our desired shots.
And thus, by doing so, we can all continue to share our own version of that scene and deliberate further.
Me leading? No no... just share share. Everyone else can share their experiences here. In retrospect, I reckoned these 2 were the extreme cases (also some shots of the model).

Here's my waterfall:

Reason for not cloning away the cable
1) Too tedious to clone as it interface with leave
2) No time
3) Prefer to leave it natural

Sounds familiar?

This shot came with a price. I was "reprimanded" by Adrian for plucking the 2 moring glories.

Haha... I was about to grab my Big Gun and shoot already.
Noticed how he was holding his small pistol already in his right hand?
I think he would have had no chance... had Tommy not stepped in... HAHAHAHA...!!!!

Yah... look at Adrian's face in the photo higher up when he was about to fire his pistol on me - you will know this SNAG is a pure environmentalist at heart!

Mai siao siao...just read your profile on smug mug. Quite impressive.

Hope you don't mind, but I find the image quality from the GH-1 is not the best? RE: the siblings in Ban Pho village where the mother was brewing wine.

Here is another small little IR shot while we were on board the Bai Tu Long Junk.
Blue sky, turquoise sea, red junk, wooden bum boat... wah, heaven!
I could just stay on the Junk forever.
I only got to make sure I count my number of drinks (hehehe..).

Another one of my almost fantasy-like IR rendition.
Please don't laugh at me.
It's World Cup fever lah...
So the colour seems a little Brazil-like. Hahaha...

Here some of us were shooting at the Temple just besides the Bridge at the Vietnam-China border,
others were either eating Tow Huay, or having their shoes polished.
The one or two not too adventurous ones were simply trembling in the cold of the North!

The smaller photo inserted is the original IR photo right out of the camera.

Turning left from the main temple brought us to this small little shrine on the left side.
Another IR shot here.

Like Stevepow, I thank you all for viewing.

Thanks Acpical for dropping by my website.

No worries and don’t mind at all for any comments. All are most welcome for any critic. As you know, this scene has all types of adverse lighting condition. My approach in general photography has always been to get the exposure right (if a choice between exposure and colour). Colour is 2nd priority to me because it can be subjective. I was capturing at -1.66EV in order to avoid any blown out. Given the smaller sensor of GH-1, recovery of light and colours could be pushing to the upmost limit and any decent recovery may not reflect its original condition.

Bounce flash could be an option but it takes time to experiment.

You have rightly pointed out the image quality has been compromised. I did noticed during my pp, esp. the overall rendition just doesn’t seems quite right. Ha ha, I’d blame the camera, but I’m glad despite the heavily underexposure, the image still salvageable – perhaps classified as record shot. LOL

I’ve seen Serene has a nice shot of the girl and I’d really love to see the works of others for this particular scene and to know how you overcome it (be it pp or otherwise).

Thanks to Adrian initiative for the fall-in shooting at Sapa Pasar Malam. A very rare encountered with heavy mist and street lit with incandescent bulbs and low light ambience. Another challenging task and really a test of high ISO.

Personally I liked this image due to "layers" of people

Wwooooohhh... the lines!

Yah, I agree on Adrian's initiative.
The night shoot session at Sapa was really quite something.
Now that I think back on it... actually it would have been really good had I explored the night scene a little more.
But then again, it is never enough. Hahaha...

Yupe... your photo takes us back to exactly that moment, that scene.
Actually this kind of misty weather in Sapa is really nice.
If I have a chance, I will really love to be there to be immersed in it again.

Simple. You just ask SGTrekker when their next trek to Sapa would be.

With due respect to them, it reminds me almost the same uniform worn by some of the Chinese band play in our local funeral wake.

Resembling a cowboy town with a Red Indian lady? Except that they don't eat noddle. Pho Hien? What is Hien (anyone?)

Head to toe
912066660_SYYGG-M.jpg

I'd considered this as equalling challenging scene besides those kids playing with the buffalo. Light pouring in from doorway and roof and fire also burning. The ambience was fairly dark. In this location, I spent more time with the pigs at the backyard and sneak in a few shots of the kids at last few moments.

Not very satisfying as subject looks abit wayward of an otherwise natural setting.

Just that this time round it's online.
Great job, divinemoment!

This is my rendition of the same scene retrieved from the bin. I had to dial down 1.60EV during PP to make it usable. I also cheated by cropping most of the door in the top left corner. I agree it's not easy to take but that's the challenge.

Yah... And no wonder I kept wondering why this gentleman below was wearing a uniform not unlike that
of our friendly neighbourhood security guard! Hahaha...

Truly. With so many colourful bandana and costumes around in Sapa, we sort of felt ourselves
getting lost in Cowboy land.
Hien? No idea, man.

You want to extend a day or two in Chengdu?
Not in Chengdu. Done that already.
But maybe Huangshan.

Sigh... you guys got all the shots.
My this series all down the drain...

Some More of Sapa

I am sure everyone of us remember the second morning in Sapa, after walking pass the Dog meat seller in Sapa Market
on our way down to Cat Cat Village, we all saw this scene from the sloping road.
Stevepow has already put up his beautiful shot of this.
But I thought for story telling purpose, I'd just put up my version of this.
A quaint little, French colonial-looking building from afar.
Looks like fairy land. The mountain peaks high up was just being revealed fleetingly by the passing clouds.

4730208261_08349af5d4_b.jpg

Then as we finally walked to this building, we saw how it actually looked like.
Apparently an office for some kind of 'Forest Protection' authority.
What was unforgettable was, how slippery its roof top floor was.
More than a few of us, in our eagerness to capture our perfect picture, found ourselves slipping on
the moss-lined, wet floor on the top floor.

[Ahem... please forgive the non-aligned verticals here... It's merely a record snap shot...]
4730832170_effda1de99_b.jpg

But what was even more unforgettable was, as we turned back and were about to leave, the clouds suddenly parted and
allowed a stream of sunlight to fall upon a section of the scene in the distance.
I exclaimed in excitement when I saw that, and pointed out to (if I don't remember wrongly)
Stevepow, acpical, Adrian and divinemoment....
And here is my humble version of that view.

4730782276_64caf4d28b_b.jpg

Somehow, this scene kept lingering in my mind.
Funny. Don't know why.
