Pentax Luna New Year Promotion - K-7 for $13xx, Twin WR Kit Lenses for $439SGD!

Got my K7 at OP for $1360 using credit card but no trade in of old camera. I have booked the Tamron 18-250 but would take 2 weeks to come. Sigh, now no lens to play with.

You still have your K20D kit lens? Can mount that on your K-7...

No, I sold my K20D and kit lens last year..left only the Tamron 75-300 (or is it 70-300)..anyway, just bought the 18-55 and 50-200 WR... but I will still go for the 18-250 and a 10-20mm.

why not just stick to both kit lens, and just attempt to get the 10-20?

Coz I have only one Pentax body... so I need something more flexible for my work. :)

Not yet lar bro..... tell you.... sitting on the damn fence is painful.......... as I have stuff from the N system, CF card, battery, SB600 Flash, 35mm, 100mm macro, a bit more tough to just jump.... that is why for the past weeks, sitting on the damn fence and thinking very hard.... from D90 to D300 (pre own) to K7 back to D90, D300 to K7...... ouch.....

I also have the D90... good number of features. K7 also has a good number of features, but doesn't have the clean high ISO by default (i.e. without PP). Both are great cameras... but I felt it a bit pointless to own both for my own personal needs.

Do you already possess the D300 and the D90 together? If so, most probably can let one go... unless you absolutely need the individual features of both.

The reason I bought a K-x (as a backup to my D90) was its clean high ISO by default (almost as good as the D90) plus the fact I got it at a great price plus I had been eyeing those Pentax pancake lenses for a long long time! Yet to obtain one of those however! But I think before the year ends, I should own at least one pancake... hopefully!!

Hope this helps to make your decision making a bit easier!

I came from D200... which I already sold off......... I do not own D90 or D300.... am thinking of getting either one or the K7..... the 3 offer a bit of what I am looking for in a body + the $$$ consideration.... that's why sit on the fence so long... ouch....

Ya bro, since you have the D90.... maybe can seek your advise..... will I be missing anything if I am shooting indoor Potrait, macro, general scenery..... anything you feel the D300 can offer that is missing in D90/k7.......

I mostly use my D90 indoors for family events quite often. I shoot a lot of kids' activities and some casual portraits... that's pretty much about it most of the time. I haven't done macro or scenic shots with my D90 till now.

There is a noticeable difference in features between the D90 and the K-x for what I shoot, but I'm not too sure about the D300 or K7 because I haven't had considerable hands-on with them till now for the sake of direct comparison... just a little bit not worthy of mention.

Maybe someone else who has used these cameras more extensively is more qualified to answer your query better.

What I cannot help thinking is that I can pretty much shoot any type of shot with any DSLR... the extra features on the more expensive bodies are of help when necessary. I primarily choose my bodies based on their sensor output at high ISOs because that is a very important feature to me personally since I often shoot in dim interiors. And maybe one or two other key features in the bodies. That's it.

The branded lens line up... not so important to me actually... because both brands have a lot of equivalent lenses, except for a few blank spots here and there. I find that these blank spots in the lens line up actually make my decision-making process easier... especially if I feel I will need those lenses.

In short... for me at least... its just a few key features in the bodies... I focus more on the quality and type of lenses that I plan to use. Furthermore, my good bodies come and go sooner or later... almost every two years! My good lenses stay with me far far longer!!

Thank bro.... well, I am in a way similar to you on the shooting in dim interior.... that is why the reason I sell the D200 and look for a new body with better technology on high ISO.... and of course flash system.....

And what is stoping me for flying off to get the K7 is the doubt/uncertainty I have over both the high ISO performance and flash performance..... what draw me to K7 though, is the good WB (from what I read), solid body and features at Entry level price..... and the most important factor of all is the Brothers and Sisters here at Pentax forum......

I shoot mainly Raw, but I rather get the result right during shooting then PP later..... a bit PP here and there okay, not sitting there 1 whole week to PP 100 over photos........

But ya, I am cameraless now for weeks, and I feel I am getting the Medical term call "Cameraless Withdrawal Syndrome".... which can lead to severe headache, sleepless nights, lost of apetite aka cannot eat cannot sleep, over reliance on CS forum and in some serious case, anything that resemble a camera shutter button, will lead to uncontrol action of pressing it non stop......

afaik, the raw noise in k7 is still with the competition, i feel it boils down to your peference for the graininess, whether u like it fine-grained or plastic-smooth..k7 in-cam noise treatment can also be set according to taste: off, medium or high; & starting @ xxx ISO

however just a quick general observation, whatever APS-C sensor at high iso also sucks to me lah :D iso 1600 and above whether any brand, better not be your bread and butter  i'd rather focus on indoor flash technique.

i prefer retaining the grain later for some fine-tuning noise control, which gives better results than my camera screwing with NR, note that some other brands have "hard-coded" noise treatment which may be too much to begin with.

I have not try ISO 1600 or higher cause my previous D200 CMI..... I believe for indoor with some lighting no need to go up to ISO1600 or higher bah??? .... now the Pentax Flash is another headache, cause flash never cheap....
