I don't think the Pentax prices here is competitive at all, having just came back from my Japan holiday I realized that after the recent prices increased by Emjay the Pentax prices here is far from competitive.
Japanese Yen is at the one of the highest now since the finance crisis at S$1.6 to 100yen versus a year ago at S$1.24 to 100yen. I still own my Canon gears and the price is now atleast 10-20% more expensive in Japan than here and all others small accessories as well. However, the Pentax gear appear to be cheaper in Japan than here, strange huh, I bought a copy of DA 50-200mm WR lens for S$377 after tax rebate (S$395 w/tax). I was quoted here by OP and Alan that the price has gone up and is going for S$5XX, CP S$6XX, for crying out loud Japan is so much cheaper than here, it is rather disturbing (hardly consider pinching pennies).
18-55mm WR is selling about S$350 here, and if you check BH Photo it is going for US$169 i.e. about S$245.
I agreed when Emjay first took over the dealership the prices were very competitive but not anymore after the recently round of price increase by them
I fully agreed we should support the local distributor but it has to be equitable.

Yeah, it's kinda sad to see the local prices jumped up quite a bit in the past few months. Why they increased the prices is beyond us, but it's good to see they finally lowered price of K7 by as much as $300 (or more if you can bargain it lower
). If they can't move the sales of those lenses, they'd sure lower the prices again, just like they are doing for K7 ;p

1) the K-7 focusing screen is bigger than the K20D screen (tab placement to hold the screen is also different)
2) Yes, no problem using O-ME53 eyepiece magnifier
3) There are two battery options: 1 x lithium ion or 6 x AAs (lithium/Ni-MH/alkaline), requiring separate battery holders (provided).
As the lithium ion battery holder is smaller, there is a slot to keep 1 SD card. If you use the AA battery holder, there is no slot for an SD card.
No place to store the Remote Control F on either battery holder.

While it might not mean much for us because the Yen is so strong, that strong yen also means that prices for Pentax gear outside Japan goes up as inventory purchased is pegged versus the Yen. I think we are kinda fortunate to be able to scour globally for the best deals and benefit from price dips elsewhere.

Certainly! I'm saying 'support the local distributor as long as its reasonable to do so'.
I don't advocate blind support.
If its a good deal elsewhere, after weighing in the support, warranty, other costs, price delta, then pls do buy from the better dealer. We certainly don't want to feed complacency into the local distributor
.What I'm saying is that in the context of the K7 (Amazon price USD1095), works out to be a non-logical deal.

so wow, k7 very cheap in singapore!
there are other issues.. sometimes different pricing for different markets. take for example clothes, zara's conversion rate for pounds to euro, in london it is a lot cheaper to buy something from zara, compared to buying it in paris, with pound to euro being 1: 1.1 or so currently.
you seem to be spouting the idea that purchasing power parity (or PPP) in economics holds. that is definitely not true. if that were the case, you won't have seen drivers running to malaysia to pump petrol :bsmilie:
