Unless they announce K5 successor next week and you will have that price in 2-3months time.

in my opinion, Mr Quek is not someone who will anyhow overcharge pple anyway... so say or don't say also not much difference.

the most important thing is to do your homework, check the price-guide before you go and buy.

if the price is different from what u read here, then there is a reason for u to ask the shop right? last discussed at clubsnap, price is $XXXX. why is their price different?

if they want to do your business, they will need to have a good explanation right?

oo ya u r right..coz last time i read a thread someone said wil get better price if let they knw we r from clubsnap...

I did not say anything this afternoon when buying k5 spare battery, he quote me same price as everyone else here. FYI.

Finally, edutilos.. I was wondering why you were using a K-r (capable it may be) instead of Pentax's flagship! Am sure it will sing in your hands. :)

K-5 body only $1569 last 2 sets at serangoon nex mall I just saw it!

Maybe it's time to graduate from k-r to k-5?

Or maybe not. The camera's not yet the one limiting me at the moment. :)

Do want a battery grip for portraits though.

Don't cry, just buy :) And a K5 will sure make you smile :bsmilie:

I'm strongly thinking about getting a K-7 or K-5. I've become self conscious about the shutter loudness, especially when taking multiple exposures. I'm no pro, but I'd rather the whisper quiet pfft pfft pfft than snap snap snap. :)

Any ideas when the K-3 will come out? I assume late 2012. Any disagree?

Just got the k5 from SLRR ytd for $1498.

Early 2012. It's been like clockwork since the K10, even the Hoya period. With this sale to Ricoh there might be delays, but I suspect it'll still be released by mid 2012.

K10 - 14 September 2006
K20 - 23 January 2008 (16 months)
K-7 - 20 May 2009 (16 months)
K-5 - 20 September 2010 (16 months)
(new pentax body) - January 2012

Having said that, It's seriously difficult to imagine what changes you definitely would want over a K-5. I guess focussing speed could still be improved, more AF points will be added and we'll probably also get more metering points. Might also get an even smaller body with a swivel screen, along with "pro" video functionality which is presently missing. Not sure I'd upgrade for that.

The K-7 is very affordable, but I think the K-r has a better sensor. Eh, not sure what I would do if I were you. What lenses were you planning on getting?

Hmm... I'll just wait for k-3 before upgrading lol. :bsmilie:

Some people asked for a quick comparison of the K-r versus K-5, here's a few key points (which some of you probably already know on paper), along with some other random musings:

1) Battery life is tons better than the K-r. I was worried about needing more than 1 spare battery for my K-r, having to charge one battery after one sunset shoot, the battery would indicate that it was drained. I ended up getting 5 spares for the K-r, it's a long story. I just charged the Pentax battery for the first time since I got it, that's about 3-4 times the number of shoots I squeezed out of it... Maybe even 5. And I'm told the Divipower one lasts even longer.

2) Focusing is a lot snappier than the K-r. Don't get me wrong, the K-r is great, but the K-5 is better, and I find it more trustworthy than the K-r's focusing at least for cats.

3) 100% and larger, brighter viewfinder - it's a small point but it does make a difference.

4) Better gradations, i.e. no banding; also greater resistance to banding in post. This was a rather large issue for me - if I tweaked the contrast just a bit harsher you'd get happy bands in the sky. Naturally this is a smaller issue than it sounds, but it makes a difference to me - saves me the trouble of smoothening out the banding when it happens.

5) Marginally better detail - useful for landscapes.

6) One-stop better ISO, thereabouts. I would shoot confidently with ISO1600 with the K-r (we've come a long way since the days of the K100D, I must say), but I do so confidently at ISO3200 for the K-5.

7) Better layouts, etc, blah blah blah, we already know that.

8) I haven't had a chance to test out the electronic level very extensively, but suffice to say I think it's not quite accurate in vertical format... I'm not sure if it works, but I'm quite sure it's off, so I'm doing it by eye for now despite having an electronic level in camera. Wonder if sending it in for fixing would take a long time - anyone knows?

8) Assuming the SR/leveling module has not changed since K-7, my experience is that it's not reliable as well. I'm speculating that sensor-shift SR does not integrate well enough with the gyroscope. I've been told before, sometimes SR systems like this does not return the sensor to absolute alignment with the camera body even after a period of stability, which may explain why my K-7 experiences random tilting (even on a tripod) which pisses me off seriously (probably also due to the camera's age?). Perhaps someone can test this on MLU mode which turns the SR off. I tried and apparently still unable to isolate the problem..

A quick search reveals that it is just simple miscalibration, actually... Hrm.
