Pentax @ IT Show 2008

On the first day when i visited and tested the 200 DA* and K20D, i was being offered $195X for just the body without any freebie.
To be frank, need not to be "if the customers asks nicely".
I was offered without even prompting them the price nor knowing the price of K20D in the IT show.

However i believe on the last day, one should be able 2 push for slightly lower price than $195X or... with the freebie but no lens.
Wish i can buy K20D now...

Now you see I'm sorry to say that is really dumb marketing.
If the body can be had at $195x, then it should have been reflected on their promotional flyers up-front and not if one has to ask in person. The whole purpose of these consumer shows is to MOVE THE PRODUCT. Don't know if anyone paid at the advertised price or not but if they did, I'm sure they would feel shortchanged if they found out that can be bought cheaper. To advertise at list price gives the wrong impression that the camera is more expensive than it actually should be. Unfortunately even $195x is too much imo...

S$1950 is about US$1300 plus 7% tax, that's in line w/ the retail price in US. But I do agree they should've mark a lower price on the promotion flyers to make the camera even more attractive.

Bro, fengwei had mentioned that it is abt the same as those selling in usa. the price is tag accordlingly to the range of the semi-pro level dslr ...consider K10D was selling back then at below cost, i reckon the new management might want to see an increase in revenue therefore explained the increased price
as u always mentioned, it the man that behind the camera,14 meg somemore and superb high frame rate of 21fps...mtl...buy buy buy la

K20D worth to buy at S$1600 ~ 1800. But is not worth supporting SxRxxR. This is why N people were so happy:lovegrin:when NxKxN take back their N.

personally felt we had to stike a balance between our wallet and our need...ask yrself what is the R.O.I
does the newer K20D meant that yr older camera is no longer good and u can't take good pic with it?
will it guarantee u of BETTER shots than what u already getting now with yr current gear?
is it the camera that infront of the man that is impt or the man that behind the camera?

buy only as when u need, time is hard....and going to get harder.....we need to prioritize.

Trade show prices are always marked up, its only the freebies that makes the deal seems more realistic. Prices for cams and lens here are always much higher nowadays, even compared to Malaysia, not to mention US and HK. Thats why most of us are buying our gears overseas, the money we save can be put to something else.

Anyway the way I see it, the price for the K20D is about the semi-pro range going head on with the rest of the pack (E-3, D300, 40D, A700). K20D offers some features not see in the same class of cameras, and some 1st time features like the 21fps. I find this is good improvement overall, and the price is not too bad. It may not appeal to others, like me who likes to machine gun sometimes and want damn fast focusing, but from the image quality I seen so far, those are minor stuffs that I can overlook.

On the other hand, this actually makes the K10D even more attractive buy now, even though K10D is going out of production soon. This also good for us K10D owners, the price of the cam still holds in 2nd hand market. Unlike other brands when a new model comes out, the previous model have to be sold like 50% off from the original price, if not cannot resale.

Do remember guys, camera bodies come and go, they will depreciate in price, if the price now is not good, then wait for a while later when the price drops. Until that time comes, keep shooting and start saving for pancakes and SDM lenses :P

Well, if you can and are willing to pay the price at the show. Just Buy! Buy! Buy!;) If not just wait after the show. I bought the 16-50 at the last show. Till now i'm quite amused i got a 16-50 that is much more expensive than my 50-135.:bsmilie:

I think OP went as low as $860 at one time. But at $899 for the IT show price, I would say go for it and get the free gifts and hassle free warranty. But go on the last day...the price may reduce a little or maybe you get more free gifts. Unless you can bargain them for "last day" gifts on Day 2 tomorrow..;)
I got mine at OP for $740 (body only) last month

ok...that confirm I would have preferred to buy at the pcshow. Including the kit lens $100+, I don't mind paying a little bit more for the free gifts but more importantly, hassle free warranty from the local agent...of course, not that it is very important because you seldom here defects on pentax camera anyway...

I think S$1,888 would be more auspicious... :bsmilie:

yup, dun think will have any problem within warranty (my DL still working)
actually, I dun want the kit lens and only OP is selling body only :dunno:

not quite auspicious enough!

make it $888 :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

thats not only auspicious,it'll help pentax get a foothold in the DSLR market;p
